I have heard 40 deaths

Damn. That just pisses me off.
Hope all our UK friends are ok as well as their family and friends. |
If your cable/satellite provider offers it, BBC America's picking up the actual BBC feed.

I'm with Steady in saying my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the victims.

The CNN coverage was the worst I've ever seen them do. I didn't even bother with MS-NBC, and I have an F-chip that limits my viewing of Fox (medical necessity - blood pressure). The looney-tunes are out on the call-in shows; the majority of callers on c-span radio are either hand-wringing sob-sisters who think we make them attack us, or knuckle-dragging knuckleheads who are still unclear about the differences between Saddam & Osama, al-Qaida and Irag. |

Just waiting for my little sister to get back to me now, she was in London today with her boyfriend.
|
I'm sure she's fine newton.
hope you hear from her soon... I know how stressful things like that can be. My cousin was living on the beach when the Tsunami hit and we didn't hear from her for a few days but she was ok... |

The Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has issued a statement following the terror attacks in London, which have claimed at least 33 lives.
Mr Livingstone said: "This was a cowardly attack, which has resulted in injury and loss of life. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been injured, or lost loved ones. I want to thank the emergency services for the way they have responded." He went on to describe how London was prepared for just such an attack and that emergency plans had been in place since September 11. He said: "One of the exercises undertaken by the government, my office and the emergency and security services was based on the possibility of multiple explosions on the transport system during the Friday rush hour. The plan that came out of that exercise is being executed today, with remarkable efficiency and courage, and I praise those staff who are involved." He added: "This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty and the powerful. It was not aimed at Presidents or Prime Ministers. It was aimed at ordinary, working-class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christian, Hindu and Jew, young and old. It was an indiscriminate attempt to slaughter, irrespective of any considerations for age, for class, for religion, or whatever." Condemning those who carried out the attack, he said: "This is just an indiscriminate attempt at mass murder and we know what the objective is. Londoners will not be divided by this cowardly attack. They will stand together in solidarity alongside those who have been injured and those who have been bereaved and that is why I'm proud to be the mayor of that city." Addressing the attackers directly, he said: "I know that you personally do not fear giving up your own life in order to take others - that is why you are so dangerous. But I know you fear that you may fail in your long-term objective to destroy our free society and I can show you why you will fail. "In the days that follow you will see that people from around the world will arrive in London to fulfil their dreams and achieve their potential. "They choose to come to London to live the life they choose. They flee you because you tell them how they should live. Nothing you do, however many of us you kill, will stop that flight to our city where freedom is strong and where people can live in harmony with one another. Whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail." Anyone concerned about friends or relatives in London can contact the emergency helpline on: 0044 (0) 870 156 6344. |
Yep, went straight to the source, BBC America, also.

Hang in there Lee...You'll hear from your parents soon. I'm sure they are trying to contact you to let you know they're doing OK. :) |
whats the point of immediately condemning the attacks? would there otherwise be an assumption that the government supported them?
US and Britain should learn from Russia... say a gas line blew up and deny any terrorist involvement and act puzzled that such an assumption came up. no reason to empower terrorists when you can downplay everything and then go quietly kidnap them and shoot them in the face. |
I hope they are ok Lee, they'll be trying to get in touch with you as hard as you are them I'm sure, more crossed fingers here.

JR, I highly respect you, but I have to tell you that "spin doctoring" is NOT your forte. |
The phone lines were still buggered into the night, I spoke to my sister who lives and works in London, Most people are just relieved that it's happened
and it wasn't huge, it's been expected for a while. She passed through kings cross on the Piccadilly line about 20 minutes before the bomb, so that was lucky. Today she's just pissed off that she has to go to work cause there's no tubes on the line she takes. |

Lee,
Any luck getting ahold of your parents? |
Now the hunt for the bastards behind will begin... if it is anything like Madrid, then we can probably expect that these islamist scums are hiding somewhere with lots of explosives, and will strick again, if not found...

I'm still in with JR's shooting them in the face idea! Edit: When found of course. |

If anything had happened i would have been told though so im going on the no news is good news train of thought right now :) |
Just 7 miles from my old home, there is a small radical moske, which have already have had 3 people connected with al qaeda and other extremist groups... one was in guantanamo (caught in afghanistan), but later released due to pressure from the government, another is awating the death penalty in Morocco for taking part in terror, and last one is in a israeli prison for preparing terrorist attacks.
If anything happens in my old town, then I think people will burn it to the ground... |
http://www.werenotafraid.com/ - fuck the terrorists and smile today :)
