I am defiantely going with an intel board and processor... I remember seeing some benchmark tests... Was it hyperthreading technology with the 800 Front Size Bus that everyone was saying was over rated for the price or is that the best pentium to run for ... Already have a gig of DDRAM I can stick in the slots and all that good stuff.. shitty video card but hey I don't really need anything special int hat department. Trying to stay on a budget cause I'm going to have to get a loan her somehow to get this stuff today...
Computer is so unstable it isnt even funny though :( |
Noone?

here is a review about hyperthreading, hope it helps.

what exactly is your question?
well, as long as you don't do video editing or photoshop batches the computer is waiting for you most of the time anyways. so you can concentrate on your budget - not on whether the processor has 3,2 or 3,4 GHz. You won't notice a difference. And HT is also just cool when you got software that understands to work with that. Again: with Photoshop or Ulead Media Studio Pro it's really an improvement - with Word or Excel you won't notice a difference. Enough memory (1 gb) and fast disks are far more important. cheers |
Thanks going to read that article...
I guess my question is... If I am going Pentium, don't do alot of gaming... Will have 1g of DDRAM Running in the dual channel slots (two 512's) ... What type of Pentium processor should I buy... I want it to have the front side bus of 800 at least... with of course L@ cahce of 1 meg if possible... But I don't thnk I should need a top of the line one as I don't use alot of the programs the more advanced chips were made for. |
Don't think Hyper Threading technology will make much of a difference given what I do .... no hardcre graphics applications etc...

As my sysadmin says... "The one with the most blinking lights" :biglaugh: And you know what? he is right :P Hyperthreading is ok. no more than that. We have AMDs as well and they are sometimes better than pentiums. If you are fixated on Pentiums, P4 xeon 2.8 is a very good processor. 1GB memory is a good size for most of what you will probably do (I am only assuming you are doing "average demanding" stuff). More important than anything else, more important than speed of disk, size of memory and certainly CPU speed, is... keep your system healthy and clean. Avoid installing what you don't need and CERTAINLY avoid installing what you don't know. Have a firewall and an anti virus, run a spyware deletion too once in a while. Don't install little "nifty" applications you don't need, and always uninstall things you don't work with already. Avoid huge hires wallpaper on your desktop. Disable the windows mouse shadow, and other "cool" stuff noone really notices after 10 seconds.. This advice will make your PC twice as fast. Certainly faster than any investment you will make on hardware. |
Was planning on using more from my old system... But hell I'm pretty much buying everything brand new but the two 512 meg sticks of DDRAM... HEre is what I'm going with :)
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4M80-M7 - Cheap mother board, considering going with this one instead but I'm not sure if I want to run RAID drives.. although I do plan on running a 3 hard drive system... Here is the other baord I am considering http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...GD2-DT&cat=MBB Only down side is I have never hooke dup RAID drives so I want to do some reading up into it before I hook up two of my 3 drives in a RAID setup and the third as a backup essentially.. I actually wanted the extra space for when TIVO goes live with the wireless tramsittal of everything over to your computer's hard drive... Processor - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P43000E775-N HEatSynch ... lil over kill better safe then sorry - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=CF503B0-1 This is sweet :) - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BA-2131-WB And 3 of these - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=4R120L0 Dual Layer DVD + CD RW +/- ... http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GWA-4161B-SW-N (current one is single layer 4X DVD Burner) For a little fun... Dual monitor setup - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SBT-TVFM Sweet Case - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=CPXMAN-01 :) If I go with the cheap mother board only $600 for everything all said and done... Would pry cost you $1,000 to buy ne just like it ... Not sure as I haven't priced 'em out but I haven't built a computer in a couple years figured it woudl be fun... |
