Hey ladies and gents.
Anyone know of a solution to search and replace links across a server with several domains on it?.. We have it incorporated into a custom solution but wont be ready for several days/weeks. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. :) |
Here's how I do it.....
""""Technick ,you homo bastard!!! I want every single mother fucking link on every fucking domain we have changed , right fucking now , or my foot is gonna pay a visit at high speed to your scrotum""" I then find it helps to stand behind making noises like a quiz show clock ticking down whilst stretching ,warming up and putting on my special "nut kicking" shoes...(opera slippers don't cause that castrato squeal that i do try to obtain with my nut kicking) ;-)))) |
Oh and people that have worked at the offices in Vancouver know I'm not really exagerrating.

I want every single mother fucking link on every fucking domain we have changed , right fucking now mate, or me BAR B is gonna pay your IGLOO a visit via dial up to your scrotum""" But he cant stand behind me cause theres 3 weeks worth of ocean between us...haha But you can see why im looking :agrin: |

for i in `grep -ir olddirectory/subdir/link1.html /www/vhosts/ | cut -d":" -f1 | sort | uniq`; do cat $i | sed -e 's/olddirectory\/subdir\/link1.html/newdirectory\/newlink1.html/g' > .tmp$$; mv -f .tmp$$ $i; done
That would search all files in /www/vhosts (and all subdirectories) for the string "olddirectory/subdir/link1.html", produce a unique list of filenames with full path, replace the string you searched for with "newdirectory/newlink1.html", write the new output to a temp file, then overwrite the original file with your new one. |

I tried a few browser based solutions but they all seemed to have issues.

Mr Benn is a very sharp guy :) A pleasure to deal with as well.

Run it from an ssh session from your ftp root, take a look at it and you'll get it. It'll change anything server wide. Of course it's even easier to treat html as php from the get go and use includes but that's another discussion. |
