These brave men should have every asset then need to fufill their missions safely.

this is news? 60 minutes ran a story about this months ago. the troops havent had adequate equipment in a long time. patching humvees with plywood. nice.

As much as I don't care for him, the lack of armor is not really Rumsfeld's fault.

I would be willing to bet that money for providing appropriate armor for HumVees has been in the original draft of every budget since the beginning of the peace dividend myth.

I would be equally willing to be that the money fell on the cutting room floor to enable a bigger appropriation for some cocksucker's pet project - whether it fell victim to turf warriors in uniform or mufti is irrelevant.

You have two kinds of politicians involved in military bugets - the cocksuckers in khaki and the cocksuckers in Brooks Brothers. Steel plating is not nearly as sexy as star wars pipedreams or wizz-bang bombs, and probably isn't being made in the right Congressional District to begin with.

Now, the battle plan that allowed such a large vacuum of power to exist for so long IS on Rumfeld's head. The sad thing is, we could have secured more the countryside without needing that kind of armour had we not gone into the fight so light in the first place.
