Say a few diferent ones, like start at one that does 10,000 hits a day, then maybe one that does 50,000 hits a day, then add in the big boys .

What do you think the top 5 tgp's to list on are today, and how many hits a day do you suppose they recieve?

Do you think that there is any science to the position you would optimally want to purchase? i.e. algorithms and such?

Well traditional logic would say:

"If you are buying, pay the lowest price possible for the highest quality available"

"If you are selling, charge the highest price possible for the lowest quality you got"

In the words of Ma Bell: "Never give the sucker an even break"

Why would you want to pay?

On the Hun if you want a guaranteed listing then you pay - otherwise you submit your gallery and take your chances :)

Why would you want to pay?

Why would you advertise on the Superbowl when you can plaster posters on utility polls all over town?
