"An integral part of the Trans Canada Highway network, the 12.9 kilometre Confederation Bridge is the longest bridge over ice-covered waters in the world. Officially opened on May 31, 1997, this historic landmark carries two lanes of traffic 24 hours a day, seven days a week. "
Depends how fast you drive ;) |

Yes it is. And beleive it or not that bridge is whats going to change the world we all live in. Until that bridge was built is was unsure if it was possible to span that long of a distance. And to further the dificulties the engineers also had to deal with 40-50ton icechunks floating down underneath it, constantly bashing the bridges piles. Now why would this change the world we live in.? The Bering Straight is the small ammount of ocean that keeps North America and Europe from being connected. Until the bridge in PEI was constructed it was thought impossible to build a bridge to span the 50 kilometers (i think its 50 this is off the top of my head) across the straight. Now of course they know its possible and i can guarentee we will see this happen befor we die. Can you imagine being able to drive from Toronto to London? Imagine what it will do to the worlds economy, it wont hurt it you can bank on that. |
