Everyone was a newbie once, lest we forget our own humble origins and the pitfalls on that road ;)

Would you rather the newbies learnt nothing and got scammed all the time?

They deserve much better, and to receive help and guidance, from industry professionals who can impart such knowledge.

Newbies are the future :okthumb:

gonzo 03-02-2005 06:51 AM

Its the growth ofthe board. Get used to it .... starting Friday there will be a whole lot more of them.

I had a website before I knew how to copy and paste. My host had to explain what ftp was. And no, I'm not kidding... :zoinks:

Thank God there were a few people who were patient with me and helped me get started. Snoops and 12Clicks stand out in my memory as people who really helped me get the ball rolling. Don't know where I'd be if someone didn't help this newbie.

Get used to it Sarettah.

We are gonna get new blood into Oprano on a daily basis.

Some will become great members of the Oprano family , some won't.

But new members are the life blood of a board.

Heh, not that kind of copy and paste... I was thinking of sponsor link codes. :awinky:

I remember my first sponsor had a banner inside of a table, etc... and it took me about two hours to write down the linking code and get it to work on my site. I used notepad because I didn't know there was such a thing as an html editor.

I was sooooo clueless... still am actually. :okthumb:

I agree there is newbies and there are "So I hear owning a domain is good"

Maybe we need a newbie wrangler on Oprano.

Someone with the patience of Job willing to help them out.

Give him/her a forum and pass all the newbie enquiries over to there

I did that for years at first CONDOM , then Netpond.

I no longer have the patience.

I start shouting at them and calling them morons and advising them to go to MickyDs cause they will never get it. ;-))

What really pisses me off with newbies is when you give them advice and they tell you , you are wrong.

And then it gets better , they come back to you and say "I spoke to "ACompletetosspot" on GFY and he said you were wrong , and he has an 18million post count on GFY so he is bound to know better than you"

And when you tell them you can get 30 joins for 10 mins work and that you know that "Acompletetosspot" makes 1200pm for his sig and that comprises 70% of his income cause basically all he is a professional asskisser and cocksucker and hasn't a fucking clue about pretty much anything else except sucking cock and kissing ass and the last two nights when you were asleep you made more than "Acompletetosspot" will make this mth , with his lame attempts at spamming etc etc etc......excuse me , you got me on a rant!!!! ;-))

The thing is Newbies are the lifeblood of any community ......

Well if you do make a forum just for that, PIN that post, and give the noobies their very first clue!

And I thought that I was the only one who felt like that.

It's interesting to have a look at the traffic figures for some of the better known newbie boards - from the numbers that I've seen my blog does better than some of those boards these days.

No, it wasn't.........

If your question was part of it, I wouldn't have offered a "real" reply to your question. A newbie does have to start somewhere :)

So, sorry you took it that way...I din't mean to point at anyone in particular....

You would have to go bak through the past several months of posts to see what I meant...

Generally, I am very patient with noobs. 1. I am not very far out of the newbie gates myself, 2. I have not mastered sales or traffic to any great extent, so I am sure there are noobs that sell better than I do. 3. I enjoy teaching, passing things on, paying it forward, etc....

However, my bullshit alarm is fairly finely tuned and lately it has rung very loudly in response to some of the posts.........

I am all for helping to advance noobs along the way if they show any promise at all......

Yug 03-02-2005 07:48 PM

I am curious as to what makes someone a newbie.

And also what constitutes someone who is oprano 'family'.

I personally feel there is a distinct grey area right in the middle there, which I feel I fall into ... someone who is not a newbie, but has had over half a decade of experience in the industry. Yet most of that experiece was working for 'other people', so now that I am trying to put those concepts I learnt and new ideas I have to good use for myself, Im still finding alot of things I need to learn about. I'm sort of a newbie oldie.

Where do i fit in?

you are not a newbie you are an EXEMPLOYEE that spent 5 years working for someone and thought it was easy to do it on your own. It is not easy but we are here to help :)

you have serveral kinds of newbies

1.newbies with skills = those that know about htmls and shit but just started in porn cause they heard it could make money

2.lazy newbies = those that ask around to see if someone gives them the magic key to making money and don't like to read instructions or how to manuals

3.dumb newbies = eerm hmmm shit ahh those are the lazy newbies that after asking they don't understand.

i was lucky i had a partner back in the days that was good with scripts and shit so you can say he was like a mentor so i did not do much newbie shit cause he already knew plus he got me to meet a lot of people. back in the days you did your stuff made your money and thats it. webmaster boards were used mostly for spam and getting link trades going.

but yeah we were all newbies once most of the ones here were newbies with skills you do however get the dumb and lazy that run a site and dont even know what a harddrive is. those are the ones that spend lots of money on tech support and make hosting a great business LOL

Hell Puppy 03-03-2005 12:07 AM

I've always been a "teach 'em how to fish" kinda guy.

One of the things I've always enjoyed most on the boards is answer techie questions. Up until a couple or three years ago, that is about the only time you'd see me post.

So I'll always try to help someone with a question so long as they go about it the right way. A rude know it all who doesn't want to accept your answer, wont get a second one from me (did the bitch ever pay her hosting bill?). And I also wont waste my time with someone who is just too fucking stupid to be saved. Without a certain core aptitude, you just aren't gonna make it in this biz right now.
