yes they can, but as Colin said, back in the old days you used to get as much traffic back as they took - sometimes more. And it was back in the days where 1 surfers click wasn't resold over and over and over for a new fee each time.

Back then, 5000 unique hits was 5000 unique visitors (or 10k on serge's count :biglaugh:) whereas today 5000 unique hits is about 50 visitors sent to a stack of sites each.
