What do you do with it?
Putting it in the bank seems daft. Expanding your online business seems a good idea. So what would you do with it? Buy traffic? Build sites? Buy content? |
Send me that 50K you have laying around and I'll let you know what I do with it.
I'm not one for much forward planning :yowsa: |
Invest in real estate!
Find a way to suppliment your adult buisness and use maybe 5-10k to grow your existing buisness.. |

Invest in corporate ideas, technology and new business delivery concepts ;)

Then you need to find something that is more passive than active in real estate. $50k leveraged properly might get you a $500k property if you have good credit and are ready to sign a personal guarantee. Don't want to encumber yourself? Until you are proven, 20-25% down is required. $50k doesn't do much in real estate -- might earn you $200/month in somewhat passive income with the potential upside % of any capital appreciation in the property. This goes for commercial or residential and assumes an 8% vacancy/repair reserve. Commercial properties tend to sign longer leases, so, you could say $400/month. The rule of thumb in real estate investing is to shoot for an 8% cap rate -- 8%. Deals that have a 15%+ cap rate are usually $500-$600k down, $3-4 million. Stodgy old men and Joe Homemaker are happy to earn 8%. Being in the adult world, 8% is rather depressing. If you have 50k, find some of those 'we buy homes for cash' people -- they will usually pay 12% and you can't get much more passive than that. What would I do with $50k? For now, I'd find a $250k commercial building or duplex and shoot for that 8%. With aggressive deal finding, I do believe you can turn $50k into $7m in 8 years. (Actually, my numbers started with $40k and made the assumption of only a 5% annual appreciation rate) $13m if you believe the current trends in real estate of 10%+ gains per year will continue. Why real estate? Do you want a cash cow, (well, until Shell mucked things up) buy a gas station. Gas stations cannot be finananced through SBA, most banks won't touch it. Want to buy a business? Buy a dry cleaner drop-off -- requires 1-2 employees and is based on the location. Want to finance buying a drop-off store? can't talk to a bank, they won't do it. SBA MIGHT touch it. If you can find a laundromat that has marked up their FF&E, you might be able to finance a laundromat. The banks understand real estate -- they understand 2nd homes. They don't understand how to loan money on a business that could disappear overnight if you mismanage it. I've spent the last 25 months repositioning myself after figuring out the game. After Feb 1 (I hope), I'll have things on the right path. :) Its been a long journey, but, I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.... and this time it doesn't look like an oncoming train. |
put it on black.

I'd start a check cashing store

Best investment ever ;) Sabby:) |

They do have things called business loans, but if not, go for the trailer rentals :) $50K would buy you an acre of land and 4 trailers plus extras to put on there :okthumb: |

Played NL tourneys exclusively from Nov through Dec and ended up even when all was said and done... Moved to limit mining the small tables and working out much better profit wise... If you get a chance to pick up Sklansky's tourney book and his stud one they're worth the cost and good reads, albeit math heavy... ;o) |

http://bizbuysell.com/cgi-bin/addetail?q=94356 Note the first one, $30m gross, $250k net. Now, if you're advertising a business, generally you include owner benefit in the net. Doesn't fit the definition of high profit to me -- nor does it come anywhere near a $50k budget. :) Second one is $330k, net of $80k -- much much better profit margin. Check cashing stores are profitable, but require huge amounts of liquid cash. If I were going to do check cashing, I'd buy an armored truck and drive around to large construction sites on payday -- and pay a kickback to the construction companies for letting me on the grounds rather than sitting outside and perhaps even getting them to stagger payroll time slightly to allow me to make the maximum benefit. But then you have employees.... tens of thousands of cash sitting there.... who can you trust to handle money like that? I much prefer something where the money comes in electronically and my loss liability is smaller. Heck, for $50k you can buy a banking license in many carribean locales. |
Open up a liquor store complete with a state lottery machine in a poor neighborhood. Two months later, open another.

I like it. There are so many poor. |

A guy I bowl with manages a check cashing store and is amazed at even how many "well off" people use his store. Even casino supervisors who are making over $125K a year... They are great because there is a lot of recurring income. People get into a cycle of having to use them. He also said 25% of their income is from selling extras like monye orders, stamps, phone cards, etc. As soon as someone gets their cash the cashier upsells them these things. He's trying to talk to store owner into doing it online (he has 12 physical stores in Nevada and is exploring possibly doing them via the Internet). mmmm, 834% interest..... |

To the accountant/IRS, it looks like an expense. To the Check Cashing company it is a 3rd party check, and thus, extra $$ in fees & % To the business owner, its tax free money. Of course now you have Epassporte and PayPal for tax avoidance. Many many ways to dodge taxes. And yet, none of them legal. |
cd34 , all I can say is welcome to Oprano!
:) |
Some good ideas here. (Ears Open)

Thats an easy question..
Go to Vegas, put it on red, and double it in seconds! |

Real estate / land :)
Especially in Florida, especially right up by Daytona / Ormond area ;) |

I've got a few theories regarding making those educated guesses -- regrettably, one of those theories is really poorly timed. Short of certain global events, they aren't making too much more coastline. |
There was a time I would take $50k to South Texas for a fairly decent ROI ... but then I learned to just say no. :)
I know a couple of people who sold "rental" outlet franchises in order to open regular check cashing places (not the payroll advance racket) - and they were making damned good money on the rental outlets. A lot less Workman's Comp liability in the check cashing thing, and suprisingly little difference in the insurace requirements. |
Been a long time since I've posted here, but this thread looks very interesting.
I'm surprised that everyone here wants to investt off-line. Is online investments dead or is it just ROI on bricks is better now. Me, I'd hire a bunch of cheap Russian programmers and churn out new software. Sell them online cheap, bundle them on a cd and publish them for off-line stores. |

1.) $20k to test different advertising mediums; try several configurations on the one which initially performs the best, to improve it further (aiming for 100%+ ROI).
2.) $30k into the best performer from 1. 3.) Invest all returns back into running the same advertising a couple more times, spending ~$60k then ~$120k, and evaluate the options again. |
