I noticed CJ saying she was working on mobile phone content.

In vegas, KK introduced me to someone who provides mobile phone content.

Is the time right? What's the market like? What are the forecasts? What do you think about live streaming content? Way too early?

cj 01-16-2005 10:55 AM

well we have very specific areas we are going to focus on ... basically we are using our existing content assets to create new cute plugins with photo wallpapers, textures, celeb pics & gossip, phone ecards etc ...

this is the best place to test without investing a big chunk of time - focus on what is easy for you to produce ... i think the market is about the level of internet circa 96/97 - still 'wow' factor for the average person, and will be between 1 & 3 years before its a big revenue generator for someone like myself who is not going in gunz blazing on all fronts. I'm just recycling ;-)

Our first plugin will go live a week before valentines day on one of australia's phone networks, with a red hot greetings plugin feature our most popular cards from the website.

I always preach about the value of presenting content creatively to use the same old stuff over and over ...

With redhot, i've photographed about a thousand roses, love hearts, chocolates, desserts, 'i love you' magnet messages, date ecards etc ... we have simply redesigned it and are currently learning how to integrate with the different software.

I'm more getting prepared for products to advertise at the back of purve models australia print magazine ;-)

I'm glad I have started when I have ...

Bestat 01-16-2005 03:52 PM

I have been providing cartoon and anime image content to the mobile industry for over a year, mainly non-adult but some adult as well. The market seems to be steadily growing, and I think getting setup now will be a blessing later. :)

I think the move forward alert has been sounded

It is true to say that the US is somewhat behind other continents, but that is changing rapidly with telecoms companies already upgrading and installing their infrastructure to accomodate 3rd Generation Phones (3G). It is a phenominal market with no end in sight, and no restrictions in terms of the chosen direction taken with it, whether adult or corporate.

Lee 01-16-2005 05:13 PM

The 3G, MMS and SMS markets are definately growing exponentially globally however, as i have stated on numerous past occasions, the US is still somewhat behind the rest of the world when it comes to the end-user embracing this new technology.

My personal feelings towards these growing markets is that soon or later is better than not at all especially if, you have a product that offers value to the end-user, be that adult or not.

Bestat, how have you found it has grown over the year you have been in it?

It seems we started looking into this 2 years ago, next thing its 2 years later and everyone is talking about it almost out of nowhere ... have you had any 'boom' periods yet?

Bestat 01-17-2005 10:13 AM

No real "boom" period as of yet, but I have seen the number of clients grow steady over the past year. My content is of course is a bit more unique so the customer base is smaller, but I have been quite pleased with the growth and the money that can be made. I am looking forward to a boom! LOL

CellGuy 01-20-2005 06:37 PM

BTW if anyone would like to know more about MacroMedia Lite vs other multimedia content delivery options (such as the battle between SVG - Scalable Vector Graphics - and Macromedia’s Flash format) and get the skinny on BREW, Symbian & J2ME then hit me up on ICQ. I'll also be happy to update you on the situation across the US with regards Adult cell content (did you know that some carriers won't even let you bill for adult cell content with a credit card processor?) the international opportunity and how global adult webmasters are generating revenue through simple technologies such as WAP Push, and SMS, and most importantly how you can leverage this opportunity with simple tools, overnight.

CellGuy, how does your product vary from something like mpush?

and I notice you claim to payout 50% of net ... what % does that end up being of the actual sell price of the item?

>BabeCell will issue you, each month, a payment that represents 50% of the net revenue generated by each transaction your members make.

thanks ;-)

*KK* 01-20-2005 08:27 PM

I think that too many people are going to attempt to superimpose the European way of utilizing cell phones over an American society that doesn't do things the same way. Add that to the fact that US operators don't want adult content on their networks, and we'll see how it goes. Some will do well, some won't.

My suggestion is to put your eggs in multiple baskets and see what works the best for you. Competition is a healthy thing, it leads to innovation and creation.

With that said, of course, my guy's the best at the moment for US customers, IMO.

Mpush is a nice product but we differ in FIVE key ways:

1) BabeCell dynamically inserts mobile hyperlinks over your images and video assets. With MPush you need to do some work - you need to insert text based links. With BabeCell you simple add a 100 charatcter line of javascript into your gallery template(gallery.HTML,.PHP or .ASP for example) in between the <head></head> tag. You then use the BabeCell webmaster administrartion console to tell BabeCell what site categories you want to BabeCell enable (mobile enable) and at what price point. E.g Twinks, MenOver30, Babes, Group etc...

2) BabeCell is aimed exclusively at helping US adult webmasters convert their international traffic & members. MPush aims at mainstream and adult so they cant productize to meet the demands of the adult industry (privacy, anonymity) they need to cater to a wide audience. We know it is legally treacherous trying to distribute cell phone content across the US - not only do you have Ashcroft watching over your sholder (well not so intently now!) but you have very nervous carriers too who will pull your account if you so much as send the wrong 'type' of picture. As BabeCell is the only product that cellular enables websites to focus on adult we offer a wealth of legal/carrier guidance with respect to what you can and cannot do.

3)The end user experience is sign up once and forget. BabeCell automaticaly detects ALL of your customers settings (carrier, handset, country) and sets up a permanet account using session PHP. We dont use cookies, as Mpush do, as we don;t believe these to be secure and consumers tend to 'clear' their cookies from time to time which means you lose customer interest as they need to retype all of their details! So your end users can feel very secure knowing they have an account to authenticate before they can buy any content

4) We offer online end user purchase tracking. Because SMS service can vary in speed of delivery it is critical that the customer be informed at every stage where there order is otherwise they will become frustrated at busy periods (e.g Friday night at 6pm when lots of SMS are been sent around carrier networks). BabeCell order tracker visually displays the movement of their order - in realtime - from handset, to carrier, to babecell and back. Our end users love this - its unique.

5) We offer 24/7 365 multilingual support. Your members can view there own transactio history online and also call a local helpdesk by phone or email in their own language. They are in FULL control . Our customer reps also have full control to resend images and other adult assets if there appears to be a problem.

I'd love to talk to you in more detail. Gay content is huge in Europe and we know that US gay niche is very popular - I assume you have a substantial proportion of international traffic hitting your site? Gay mobile content is very hot as the community tend to have up to date WAP phones (for fashion reasons) and so have full acess to cell phone content.

We have a credit card BabeCell solution in place for the US market but we are holding back until the carriers make clear the contractual position. We've spent a long time getting connections to the US marekt, that we use to run mainstream mobile activity (for brands and content owners)so we dont want to jepeordize this. To give you an example - AT&T will not even allow CC processing for adult cellcontent let alone premium rate SMS!! So be wary of any solutions that claim they can provide you with access to all of the US carriers - ensure that you are not legally exposed to cripling carrier fines. Your 'provider' will ensure that any fines are your responsibility - if you send content that upsets the carriers moderators then you'l need to find a good lawyer fast. Sorry to be so flippant but these are just the facts - US carriersare taking a much harder line than non-domestic with respect to adult cell content.

Right now we believe that for US adult webmasters to a)test this market) B) create 5% uplift in annual gross rev is to sell cell content to yourr internationall users DIRECTLY from oyor website. Dont invest in a new site/wap site/mobile content until you have proven to yourself that this business works. BabeCell can help you do that overnight at $0 cost.

We'd love to help you and we can have you up and running is less that 1 hour with 24 hours for content approval (we check your content against carreir guidelines and advise what categories are approproate/inappropriate for carrier distribution)

The 50% is of net payout. This equates to approx $1 in your pocket for every $3 image sold and $2.30 for every 60 sec 12fps video clip sold for $7

Please hit me up - would love to talk.

i think the time is not near yet but it is coming fast. and if you want a seat on the front row then you should jump in now and get ready for the show. I am sure when you look at the developments of the new networks and phone and then i am talking about the g3 phone they are using in asia and other parts of the world but mainly still there. It will come here even it still needs time but you can't wait till its here or you will miss it. Many other large companies already made their first step. I was looking at it but i did not find the time to get into it but i would sure do it.

good luck to any one that is trying to get in to the game.

Re: Is the time right for mobile phone content?

As far as we are concerned selling a mobile phone content license is just another license. All ways to make money.

We have already been selling mobile phone contenty licenses for years and soon we will be providing the content ready for the major phone types and sizes.

Also we will be giving away a lot of content for free, well this has already started.
