considering that 10 states shot it down ( including liberal oregon)

I would have to surmize that this ruling is just a wake up call to a shoddy prosecutor to get a better argument to present... I bet it is only a matter of time before there is a federal law prohibiting gay marriage...

in fact one could argue that this issue is the one that decided the presidential election this year...

here is my reasoning on that statement.

the issue brought out the right wing in droves to vote to outlaw gay marriges, as is obvious by the result!

many in the right wing were not willing to vote for Kerry, but probably would have just stayed home if not for the gay marriage issue... so in retrospect, I believe that this may have been the cause of more republican turn out hence giving GW a better position than he would have had...

Winetalk.com 11-29-2004 10:57 AM

Joe,
I like your analysis...will you marry me?
MikeAI refused my offer, he says he doesn't like the shape of my ass

What state(s) do you think Bush would have lost without the gay marriage referendums.

I've never understood how someone could let the actions of others have such influence on how they see the value of their own marriage.

TheEnforcer 11-29-2004 11:52 AM

Just to note that while the marriage amendments failed over 2/3 of the public supported either full marriage or civil unions. The mistake the gay community made was going for marriage wholesale right offthe bat. They should have pushed for civil unions, which have a comfortable majority of support, rather than full marriage.

Agreed.

The right-wing pro-gay fuck it up for the rest of us every time.

Personaly i couldnt care less whether we are allowed to 'legally' marry or not there are mor eimportant issues at hand here and, they should have been the ones that were focused on during the election and not te whole gay marriage issue..

Homeless kids living on the streets, Underpaid medical staff, Shit teachers in schools, etc

Sort out the shit that actually matters before you start worry about the trivial crap.

This whole thing bugs me. My uncle was in town this weekend with his boyfriend of 20+ years and it bugged me that here is a monogamous relationship with two people who are consenting adults in love and yet they can't have some of the same rights that my wife and I have; things like hospital visitation rights...and damnit gays should be able to lose half of their stuff when they split up too!

My Dad and my "stepmother" aren't married and there haven't been any issues regarding hospital visits. They both have living wills, POAs, etc. that allow them to basically do everything a married could can do except receive the other's social security. Can't gays do this too?

There are some places/companies that offer "significant other" visitations, loans, health insurance, etc. but these are the exception rather than the rule. The social security thing should be part of it as well.

I guess I'm just amazed that people are so pissed off about same sex unions that there has to be fuss either way...

the whole gay marriage thing is more about gaining some of the same rights as married couples...

maybe we should get rid of the term "marriage" anyways...just call every legal union between two consenting adults a "life partnership" or some shit...then the gays can get some of these same benefits and the religious whackos can go back to fucking children and not worrying about the pink boogeyman....

sarettah 11-29-2004 06:28 PM

If we allow gay marriage, those fucking fagswill be out in the middle of the street fucking each other up the ass....

I'm all for lesbian marriages however....... :yowsa:

Dammit...I predicted that if we allowed gay marriage the next thing you know there would be the interspecies marriage advocates... and there you have it.

What's next ? Black and White folks wanting to get married to each other ????

mojobill 11-29-2004 06:54 PM

POSSIBLY even RED and WHITE marrying each other....

... then, of course, we would have Candy Kanes.... ;-)

errr categorically no.

Your father and stepmothers "marriage" would be recognised under "common law" I would guess. LL or Mike would prolly no better.

Gay's significant others have been refused visitiations.

I'm with ,Vick.Let those pillow biting bastards suffer like the rest of us.

I say "suffer"...but I've been happily married for 4 yrs now.
This year will be our 12th anniversary.

No, GA no longer recognizes Common Law Marriage unless the couple had a Common Law Marriage in a state where they are still happening. Even though they've been together for 15 or so years, own property together, wear wedding rings, go to marriage counseling and my Dad has been called "Mr. Herlastname" the state doesn't recognize them in any more of a marriage than my neighbor and I.

From what I've read, gays who have been denied access are usually denied access by the hospitalized patient's family members, not by the hospital. I would assume this would happen in my "parent's" situation also, except we all like each other. For now. :awinky:

Depends on where you are at ... some of the laws passed in November went much further than just banning gay marriage.
