Well back then I fell off the wagon.....HARD!!! ;-))
Currently 60 days no booze , and will never drink again. There ya go :) |
No drugs. I did some once this year.
I occasionally drink. and most importantly .. I haven't gained any weight back ;-) |
No Drugs or Alcohol since 1996
Replaced those vises with online porn and life could not be better :D I do however miss an occasional good Merlot, or after dinner drink. So now I smell Aly's wine and pound double esspressos (wait maybe I didn't give up all drugs) |
I have a weakness for good wine (and no, I don't give a fuck if it's red with the wrong thing or white with the wrong thing, it just has to taste good) but I haven't even had so much as a puff of pot in almost 17 years (will be 17 years clean from any narcotic on December 15th)
I also enjoy the odd beer or two on bowling night and the rare social occasion that I actually leave my house to meet up with someone... |
No drugs since last weekend. I overdosed on Nyquill.
No alcohol till I eat dinners at Serge's. I'm doing pretty good. |
No alcohol since last night at 8:00pm (or so) so thats about 16 hours.
No drugs since...hmmm...I can't remember..... :yowsa: |
I am in New Orleans - so I am off the wagon....
|
Poker night last friday... still managed to make money despite being... uh... .entertained... ;)
|
Three years plus... not missing it.
:-) Alex |
Pssss If you drink coffee (or tea) - YOUR ON DRUGS
If you drink alcohol - YOUR ON DRUGS Do you take aspirin - YOUR ON DRUGS (most aspirin contains caffeine) Let's not even talk about NyQuil One of those things that mystifies me about American, basically drugs are ok if there are in liquid form. Coffee, tea and liquor are generally acceptable to a large % of the American population Go figure That not to take anything away from those of you who are on the wagon or practicing some form of abstinence Congratulations to those of you who are on the wagon |
Vick, I agree - we all use something to cope - some of us realize it, some don't.
I have a friend who always expresses her disgust with my love of the magic green herb, but she pops neurofen like candy ... The difference is I know every positive and negative effect my vices cause me and I compensate accordingly - whereas she's convinced pain killers are ok cause they come from a pharmacy. I had 4 operations last year, and after each surgery they gave me these super powerful painkillers - each pack has 1 missing ... I took a couple the other day when i woke up during the night in pain, and felt like i had a hangover for 3 days after. It was awful, I could feel the medication still in my bloodstream - I drank 2 pots of green tea and it still didn't make me feel any less numbed. We should understand *exactly* what everything we put in our mouth does to us - food, medication, smoking, etc - and make our choices accordingly. Since I cut alcohol and processed food out of my life, I can feel parts of my body I never knew existed :biglaugh: My next aim is cigarettes - i hate smoking, i hate being a smoker, but I don't really want to quit yet ... I still do some things I know I shouldn't, but I'm the one who has to pay the price ... & that's punishment enough to not do it next time! (usually) |
Speaking of which...
Today is day 3 of being a non smoker. I can actually think straight. :) |

cj, if you ever want good motivation to stop smoking, sit down one day and consider EXACTLY why you had the first one.
Once you realize how dumb an idea the first one was, the last one will be easy. Alex |
Why I had my first cigarette... hmm...
My hubby had just called me up during my lunch break at work and confessed to me that he'd just screwed someone else. I couldn't stop shaking, couldn't think straight, was homicidal... someone shoved a cigarette in my hand and after a few puffs I stopped shaking. Been going 9 years now. CJ I'd like to quit too but I *like* to smoke... :( |

I do remember as an early teenager the trouble we had to go to so we could have 1 cigarette to share between a group of girls :biglaugh: I just don't know if this idea will work on me though ... I know its stupid, smells gross, looks unattractive, is lining my insides with chemicals ... I think I need to get a photo of my lungs - that would do it :biglaugh: Carrie, that's a sad story!!!! ;/ |

If you want smoked-up lung pics, I found some truly digusting ones: http://www.presmark.com/htmlfile/pictures.htm |

A few years ago someone sponsored a "sober webmasters" party and everyone laughed their asses off. Sure seems like we could have one now - without trying - and nobody would laugh.
Hopefully this means everyone will be around longer to spend all the $$$ they made back during the drinking/doping days. Been 100% off sodas, coffee and tea now for nearly 60 days - those were definitely MY vices. Never smoked... only drink at conventions (go figure) and never ever did any drugs - outside of Tylenol, Midol and the occassional anti-inflamatory for my back/knee. Recently a doctor gave me codeine for my knee and I was sick as a dog in bed for nearly a week waiting for it to get out of my system. NASTY stuff - I just can't tolerate it. Funny about the caffeine though - after just 2 weeks away from the stuff I dropped 12 lbs without even trying. Isn't it odd how pure things like water and basic non-processed foods can work such wonders? |

Caffeine alone will actually make you lose a little weight by increasing your metabolism. I think what you quit that made you lose weight was the sugar in sodas, tea and your coffee plus cream if you used it. I haven't had a regular soda in over a year because of the calories. |

I've come to the conclusion that there are 2 primary food groups ... nutrients and waste .... everything that is waste builds up in your body and deposits as toxins, making it harder for your body to take nutrients from food and making you need to eat more to get the same energy (which equals unnecessary weight gain) ... big nasty cycle that continues to build up more and more until the toxins start to damage the blood (cancer), blockages in arteries (heart problems), toxins grouping together and gathering in places (tumours), toxins eating holes in stomach/bowell lining (ulcers) etc ... all serious health problems can be led back to the things we put into our mouths and the toxins they produce, but because modern medicine treats symptoms, most of us don't notice the build up over time until its too late. I've become an expert on my own organs!!! LOL using 'food as medicine' techniques which involves a carefully structured diet, detoxes every 3 months and daily yoga postures to strenghten and stretch my 'damaged areas'. I had been consistently losing weight at dangerous levels up until about 4 months ago due to organs not digesting food properly - in the last 4 months i've put back half of the weight i lost by carefully controlling when/how i eat certain foods. its FUCKING TIME CONSUMING as everything I eat has to be prepared from scratch, I rarely eat out, and the only take away option is asian or indian because even their take away is more nutritious than western regular meals. Soda is one of the WORST ... so much waste in every glass for your body to try to expell ... Kath, have you tried caffeine free herbal teas? I drink a range of different teas including green tea for anti oxidents, lemon or peppermint tea for digestion and camomile or jasmine for relaxation. There's some great stuff on the market these days especially if you buy direct from asia. My next challenge is making the 20 - 35 hour flight from australia to the states with my own cereal & milk ... and a whole lot of fruit LOL I'm the girl who always carries a banana in her bag, and not for pleasure ;-))))) The lesson .... look after your body when you can, or it will be a whole lot harder breaking bad habits when you don't have a choice. |

Caffeine also promotes the production of insulin, meaning the sugars in your blood get metabolized instead of being stored. |

Outside stressors can account for much... meaning STRESS without a proper outlet can lead to heart problems, ulcers, strokes, etc. A good regimine of excercise is a good way to deal with the Stress that life brings ( i prefer the heavy bag and dumbells:) As far as cancer goes, the only proven science detrmines it has most to do with genetics. if cancer runs in your family, you run a significantly higher risk of developing it. certain nutrients, called antioxidents, can slow r even prevent the triggering effect of rampant cel growth. You are very right in saying that living and eating well is the way to go. But even the most healthy of people can die, just ask 70s fitness guru jim fixx (heart attack on morning run) the most important thing is water. It is the stuff of life. 80% of our bodies. tied into salt tables, electrolytes, healthier red blood cells, stronger muscle fibers and te health of every organ. of courseone can drink too much water. i read an article about a woman who ingsted a toxin, and was told to drink water. well she drank 3 galons in one hour and died of electrolytic imbalance, so theres bad in every good i guess;) |
evidently my e key got stuck, sorry

For every study that proves metabolic diseases are genetically acquired there is billions of dollars in medication being purchased to 'help' with those diseases. We all have such a warped view of reality because of the information we've been fed our entire lives from the companies that make a fortune off us being sick. Heart Disease as the example - what is "heart disease"? Its just a name that describes a group of problems with the heart ... each individually is a totally different condition and all heart conditions can be treated with the food you eat - unless you have a physical issue like your heart is in your leg or you only have half of your veins. could you touch your toes as a child? can you touch your toes now? Quote:
Do you mean the studies from the scientists who also promised we'd have a cure for cancer before the 80's? You can't trust science that is funded by the company that the science is about ... Almost all pharmaceutical manufacturers self regulate their medication and are responsible for funding their own 'studies'. Hi, I sell widgets. You need widgets or you will die because the body can't live without widgets. Please give me money for research so i can find more reasons why your body needs widgets. I'd much rather follow the medicine of a culture that has 1% of the health problems of western cultures ... they have proof, western medicine has excuses. |
No pot for 8 months now and feeling a zillion time better for the lack of it
