Sorry for the cross-posting, but I'm mad as hell as how I have been treated by Epic Cash and want to warn other webmasters.

I recently found a neat-looking site I was considering promoting as an affiliate, because many of my members have emailed me with great interest in the type of niche content it has, so why not send them somewhere where I can get a cut?

When I went to see the tour of this Epic Cash site, I was hit with 10 pop-ups when I left. Aside from the age-old pop debate, I think anything more than a single pop-up on exit is flat out rude. It pisses off surfers, they're not going to come back to that site, and it only adds to the perception that porn sites are deceptive, spammy, and trap you in pop-up hell, which hurts all adult webmasters.

I emailed Trey at Epic Cash to let him know, politely, that I would not be promoting their site because of this "bad etiquette". No rants, no flames, no cussin'. He emailed back to ask me to promote it without consoles, to which I replied that it's a principle, and I simply don't promote anything as "discourteous" as sending a surfer into a pop-up loop. Trey wrote back:

Yeah, like that's going to win me over to promote Epic Cash. This childish, immature response is possibly the tackiest I have ever personally gotten, and I want to spread the word of how I was talked to when I non-aggressively shared my concerns with Epic Cash.

Why would you email someone to tell them you will not be doing business with them? That does not make much sense.

I can understand maybe to ask if he had a popup free option for affiliates. But that sounds like a waste of time to me.

As to adult webmaster ethics, to each her/his own. I stick with my principles of not promoting or linking to crappy sites or sites that hurt all adult webmasters (pop-up hells, sites with fruadulent rebill practices, or password forums). I've been successfully running my main site for almost 2 years now (how many other amateurs fold within months?), and have been explanding to new projects, so what I'm doing must work for me. I'm not trying to force anyone to change anything, I just don't do business with them.

You been gone to long bubba....he aint getting any free promo on here. Everybody knows the score on that..... what you expect? Part of that program is owned by Marvad anyhow...

It's a very valid point. I suppose in the long run, I could idealize that sites with customer-unfriendly practices would eventually have to change or go out of business, and that other webmasters wouldn't promote them. (But I doubt that's going to happen. Visa seem to be doing more to cull sites that webmaster self-regulation.)

On another level, I would be interested in hearing from a potential affiliate why they decided to not promote me. I might not change my site to suit them, but if I got a number of comlaints over the same issue, I would realzie I was losing potential revenue and likely try to remedy the issue. Criticism is very useful in building a good site, IMO.

Oddly enough, I emailed Media when I first signed up and asked for a console-free option and got a polite reply that it was taken care of...

to actually email someone and say "I'm not going to promote you", why? just don't promote them...if you've already told them via email you aren't going to promote them then you're not an affiliate and they aren't really going to care...

while I don't always agree with pimpdog or his posts, his program kicks major ass, he converts well and he's one of the few sponsors with a sploshing site that actyually seems to know what the fuck the niche is realy about (same with the strap-on site).

So, get over your rage about his consoles (especially after you've requested them to be turned off for your traffic) and make yourself some money or try and actually find a program that even has a strapon site, muchless knows how to sell the niche....

there are a lot of program owners I don't like and would never trust with my children, but I'll send them traffic as long as it makes me money....goddess knows I'm wasted more than enough time being friendly and having nothing to show for it ;-)

Don't try to get all dramatic- it doesn't keep me up at night or make me cry, I just think it's dumb.

It is important to remember that 99% of people never complain directly to the people they have a complaint about. Airlines, hotels, restaurants... first thing I learned in business was you take the complaints seriously, because you are getting a rare glimpse inside your customer's mind. In this case, they are getting a look inside a webmasters point of view.

Now, they can look at it and say "without the consoles, we would go broke", and send back a simple "thanks for your input. We can't do it. Sorry!"... and that would end it there.

I'm not getting anywhere with this, so I'll make one more post to try and clarify what I was trying to get at.

1) I consider multiple pop-ups bad for everyone in the business. (I'm not patently against pops, but this site was launching 10.) I could care less if affiliates get a console free option, I don't promote sites that annoy any potential customer away from possibly ever using internet porn. I have friends who stick to videos and mags for this very reason- the belief that adult sites are too deceptive and not worth the bother. To me, this is beyond ethics/principles, because it's bad for business and not linking self-destructive sites is long-term financial decision for me.

2) I chose to email Epic Cash to tell them why I wouldn't be promoting them because (presumably) if they saw they were losing enough potential affiliates, they might take it under advisement to stop doing something many people dislike. I wasn't trying to be dogmatic or force anyone to change over to my point of view. If I got a lot of emails from potential affiliates complaining about say, my site not having a graphic enough tour, I would seriously consider changing it.

3) Whatever you think of point number one, I didn't post to say, "what do you think of pop-ups? Do they make people money?" I posted to say I was treated incredibly inappropriately by a sponsor. If I read that one of my (few) sponsors treating someone else that way, I would most likely cease doing business with them.

Do you realize that EC has a policy of charging $25 to their affiliates on chargebacks and do you also realize that they pay $20 on console-free galleries? So it costs any affiliate $5 out of their own pocket when they generate a sale that results in a chargeback.
