Anyone have any tips for a young man such as my self for health insurance? Something low cost?
I'm on my step-moms teacher insurance, her old plan was supposed to cover me till im 24 regardless of wether or not i'm in school. Well, she took a new job, and on the new policy, if I'm not fulltime in school, I can't be on it. And I won't be enrolled this fall. Anyone want to share who they are using for health insurance? I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg...but don't want to go bankrupt if I get hit by a bus and am not insured. Any help would be appreciated. |
are you on the payroll of your own company?

i've yet to check things with my dad, who's my accountant, thought i'd get some insurance company names to check on from some other self employed people first. he's self employed, but gets to stay on my stepmoms insurance. |

I guess i'll just check out blue cross, i had checked their site earlier but was too late at night to call em for a quote.
If its 100 a month that's no problem. Maybe I got myself a little worried for nothing, I know some people who have insane insurance bills. No kids for steve though. I'm going to see if I can work my brother on the policy as an employee or something since he doesnt have a job right now, will have to see about that maybe that'll get a little trickier. Anyway, I had blue cross years ago, but then some other insurance the teachers get now. guess this thread may be a little pointless. ....serge, are you in florida for the show in august? |

it should be real cheap. as fro yoru brother- insurance companies require payroll records, you can NOT just to claim himas an employee and not pay him the salary. Yes, I'll be in Florida, but I don't think I'll go to Hollywood. Maybe, just maybe, I'll join Mike and Gonzo and few other close friend for a dinner. I have nothing to promote at the show, I didn't miss people I haven't seen in 2-5 years, most of the people I did business with are no longer in this industry spot lights, and hanging with the newbs is just benith me. |
Yeah, at your age, just go to Blue Cross or some other big company and be done with it. Unless you have some pre-existing condition, it's not gonna be much.
You just need to decide how much coverage you want and how much you're willing to pay for it. For the self employed, healthy person who doesn't go to the doctor very often and doesn't wanna spend big bucks on insurance, get a catastrophic coverage plan. Something with a $2000 or so deductible will be very cheap. If you get sick, you pay out of pocket, but if you get hit by a bus or need a new kidney or something you're only out the first $2K. If on the other hand you do go to the doctor, want your prescriptions covered, and want coverage when you go to specialists, like the dermatologist to get your zits popped.... Be prepared to shell out a bit more to get a good PPOS with a drug card. It gets easier with more employees so you can have a "group" plan instead of a self employed plan....but in your case, again, you're the perfect demographic. Insurance companies like young single males because they hate to go to the doctor and they do not get knocked up. |
