World Series of Poker is good tv, was up til 2am last night watching it. Very well done, had no idea about the game until I watched a few shows.
Anyone know where you can play online, against other people, but not real $? |
Yahoo has some ok poker rooms. check them out.
|
ladbrokes.com
has practise tables.No money. |
but yeah, I got hooked ok the championship tour for a while, but there was somthing about it.. somthing fake. I couldnt put my finger on it. Maybe it was just the announcers though..
|
Brad, there are a couple places you can play online for either play money or real money.... my two favorites are PartyPoker.com and PokerStars.com
Both offer table in a variety of formates... NoLimit, PotLimit, and/or limited Holdem.... Good place to learn.... |
My roommate and I are definately hooked on the WPT.
Seriously sweet. We both have a newfound respect for the game. JonC ARS Support Rep. jchartrand@i2intl.com |
Thanks for links. Checked out yahoo, decent, will check out the others.

I've tried watching, but as a spectator sport poker ranks just below bowling for me.
|
I play with Toolz at empirepoker.com
Let me know if you are going to play and I will play with you : ) They have both free and pay for play ! |
We should play for real in vegas..
at a casino..get a private table.. id play.. i love that shit..i dont know how to play..but i wanna! |
I play at ultimatebet.com but I play for money....my name is KenaiRed if anyone else wants to play with me ;)
|
Chris me and Brad and Toolz are playing now.. I suck : (
|
dont like partpoker because they dont have 2 person tourneys, been playing at ultimatebet.com for a while. been meaning to join the site toolz uses just havent done it yet. I got really really hooked a few months back and needed a break, it gets addictive.
Billy, maybe we can arrange a game while we are all in dallas next week, the guys can play and the wives can bring us drinks and stuff, think Dee would go for that? |
I would love to wait on my wife, I would never ask her to wait on me !
I love my wife and want to help her as much as I can ! But I would like to play : ) |
I watch it sometimes. Nervewracking though. I used to gamble a lot and it brings back the urges. I finally weaned myself completely away from Vegas and sports betting. You can blow loads on that habit.

WSOP is great. The World Poker Tour is even better though. They do a much more professional job.
Ultimatebet.com is probably the best place to play. They have plenty of tables setup for "Practice play"... People start with 1000 play chips and it's more realistic than Yahoo's. People call every bet on Yahoo, so it's hard to see how the game is really played. UltimateBet's no-limit sit and go tournaments are really fun too. -KC |
pacificpoker.com

Paradise Poker, Brad, is where you can play Texas Hold 'em.
I love watching the World Series of Poker. The bluffs, the psychological warfare... it's a lot of luck, but it's got a lot of strategy too. It's great to see the percentages calculated at each point in the game too. |

Watching world poker tour on TV has assured me that, now I know what I'm doing, I will be far more efficient at losing my ass in Vegas this year. :headwall:
|
I watch WPT like it a lot.
|
PartyPoker has play money, but I would sugest playing in the small $5 tourneys or the .50/$1 tables, since play money has wayyyy to many idiots that are looking just to blow their "play" money... You will have a much better time and learning experience with the small stakes action.
BTW- I will be in the PartyPoker Million3 in March, which is a WPT santioned event.... So wish me luck.... :biglaugh: |
The only problem with playing 'online' poker, is you cant see the other person.... and there are a lot of people that play pretty 'loose' online....
I love playin in the tourney's though.. gives you a 'taste' of what it's like to really play.... |
haha...i use to chill with those players at the horseshoe when i lived there in vegas.. :rokk:

Play money tables are full of idiots who have no incentive not to play every
hand so 'practice' with them is almost impossible. You do get playing time and chance to learn a feel for what you should do in relation to your hole card strengths... and that is a big plus for someone just starting to learn the game... FWIW, about the only play money area where people will play somewhat similar to a 'real' game is at the low dollar tables w/ small blinds. At the partypoker.com site this would be the $25 buyin .25/.50 hold'em tables. The ones playing for 'glory' and to build a big (fake) roll tend to stay on the high dollar tables... Why pretend to play for $100 hand when you can go for $100k a turn... lol... Anyway, if you avoid those types of big dick contests you will tend to do better getting practice at what a 'real' game is like. On the real money side, the .50/1.00 tables (hold'em, not pot limit or no limit) people still are playing much looser so you can get over-run by ijits staying in and getting 'lucky' on the river... ie it's easy to beat 2-3 idiots but 4 or more in a hand and it's like a turd that won't flush... The higher you go the less bs you have to deal with... but higher the risk and more skillful players. I stick with the $1/$2 tables cause roll is too small for the 'swings' at $2/$4... Love those big scores but my EV is much higher at the lower level. Single and Multi-Table tourneys are WHOLE different game than the sit for awhile then get up sidegames; if you play them the same you are not going to win many tourneys... Two excellent books are available by David Sklansky... Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players and Tournament Poker for Advanced Players both are heavy on number theory but not so much as will choke someone with the concepts. Last note... Online poker and face to face table poker are way different in certain regards. Different set of tells to watch for and guard against... Online wins hands down IMO though simply because there are SOOO many more tools at your fingertips than in a real game... :bdance: :bjump: :bdance: :bjump: :bdance: |

I enjoy playing the tourneys and play a couple 5/10/30's a day to practice for the big $$ multi-table weekend tourneys. Do failry well on the single table but I need to craft a different strategy for the multi-table tourneys as I can seem to stay in but as they move players around and I'm holding 1500 chips undoubtly get steamrolled by the 5-6K chip holders. |
Toolz........where do you play? I stay away from the regular tables, I seem to always get jacked. I like the no limit sit and gos at ultimatebet. Im wondering if I should check out some of the other sites for less experienced players ;)
I think that self control is my biggest issue. I almost need to post a sticky note on my monitor that says "play tight, agressive and BE PATIENT!" The times that I fuck myself are almost always situations where I knew I was going to get fucked but couldnt lay down AA when I know someone has trips or something. I like the tourneys and sit and goes because there is an actual goal instead of just sitting and playing. Everyone post where you play and what your nicks are! Mine is KenaiRed on ultimatebet.com |
My nick is Sergeisgay, I mean BradShaw75 at ultimate bet. Tried to sign up to play for $, but they declined my CC.
|
I'm not really a poker player, but that show is soooooo good anyway. They have the camera angles and personalities to make it compelling. Kind of disturbingly compelling when you consider it is just video of a card game.
