The legend has finally left the building, out of all the hard-partyin, real country singers out there who came up in a long gone era, he was one of the few still holding on. Sad day for sure to see one of remaining few to pass on.

Now how about that, 2 Johns in one day, they say these things run in 3's how's Ashcroft doing? :awinky:

Oh sorry racists censors seem to live until they're 110, must be that lack of sex and fun in their life.

The Man In Black is eternal

He's finally singing bass to June's tenor in the sky, lord, in the sky.........

I was a highwayman, along the coach roads I did ride,
With sword and pistol by my side.
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade.
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade.
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five:
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor, I was born upon the tide.
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico.
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow.
And when the yards broke off, they said that I got killed:
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide;
Where steel and water did collide.
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado,
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below.
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound:
But I am still around.
I'll always be around,.
And around and around and around and around.

I fly a starship across the Universe divide.
And when I reach the other side,
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can.
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again.
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain;
But I will remain.
And I'll be back again,

And again and again and again and again.

It was great that he got all the recognition during this past year for "hurt".........

Hate to see him go, but he went out on top..............

I knew you'd be in this thread Sykk... I know you were an admirer & a true fan...

You know we all knew he wasn't doing well, but it's always sad when it finally happens. I hope the entertainment industry gives him a good "going off" tribute... he's done a lot for music - not just country...

:(

Yup
today, I'm dressed in all black and listening to Johnny Cash endlessly....

Some of my earliest memories of childhood are when we were driving to Utah (my grandparents lived there and my dad went to work at the iron ore mines in Atlantic City in Wyoming, so we were constantly driving to Utah for Holidays and summer vacation) and my dad had this collection of 8-tracks that were either heavy metal or country, stuff like Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer, but also the country greats like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, Hank Snow, Johnny Horton, etc. and I alwyas remember my dad singing way out of tune to them but his favorite was always "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash.

Later on in high school when I started playing music seriously and formed a couple garage bands here and there, I always loved to tune up to Johnny cash songs. I was in an obscure successful band and we played a speed metal version of Ring Of Fire...

It wasn't until later on in life that I realized it was a love song.

When my grandmother passed away earlier this year, the two songs they played at her funeral were Ann Murray's "Can I Have This Last Dance" and Johnny Cash's "Sunday Morning Coming Down"

Johhny Cash's music has always been a part of my life and I feel like I've lost a family member today. I normally don't get too emotional over celebrity passings, but this one just hits a little harder.

It's one of those things, you know it's coming, but it's not any easier to dael with once it does come.
