What do you think of Trillian? I was thinking of switching. I want to hear the good and the bad.

Thanks:)

Hooper 06-17-2003 12:40 PM

when i was a pc user i used it.. didnt get a lot of messages and a lot of people didnt get mine.. but now i'm hearing that it had nothing to do with trillian, and was just a time when icq was completely hosed.

who knows. i do remembr it being incredibly handy. :)

Tonda -

What ever happened to WEG's adult webmaster Instant Messenger?

Tonda_WEGCash 06-17-2003 02:03 PM

You know Sharky that was when I first started here but my understanding is that it had alot of bugs.

Too many bugs = problems and we let it die gracefully;)

I think that is why I am a little concerned about switching to Trillian.

puchih 06-17-2003 02:28 PM

I use it. Never had a problem.
To me is great.

sarah_webinc 06-17-2003 03:35 PM

I use Trillian on my main computer and individual programs on my laptop. For some reason my laptop hates Trillian.

Tonda -

I finally remembered the website http://www.awmm.com

:-)

the one problem i have with trillian users is they send 20 messages to finish a sentence. each time they hit enter.,. the message is sent. just like on AIM. it's such a pain in the ass!

lol

I had it on my desktop for a bit. The major problem I had, was I went to San Fran for a week, got new contacts on the laptop for ICQ, got back home, and had to reinstall. For me that was too much hassle, so just went back to ICQ.

Peaches 06-17-2003 06:27 PM

I'm so out of the "new technology" loop, I don't even know what you folks are talking about when you say "Trillian" :zoinks:

Next thing I know, you'll be saying I can get a phone that's not connected to my wall by a cord!

Opti 06-17-2003 06:48 PM

Nick Dark uses trillion... I gave up wondering if he was ignoring me or not receiving messages in the end...

:bwave: hey Nick ;-)

kath 06-17-2003 08:20 PM

I use it and I love it....I had a few bugs with it awhile back but they have a very helpful interactive service area on the site - http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/trillian/index.html

I had one problem where people weren't getting my messages but I found out later it was ICQ-related. I cleared it up and it's fine. Another friend had a problem and it turned out to only be related to AIM users who had older versions.

But I love it...it's much more user-friendly, allows me to chat with Yahoo! peeps as well as ICQ die-hards and the smilies are cool. :yowsa:

Anyway...I give it 3 thumbs up...

I've been using it for the last 6 months, no problems. Good solution when you have contacts on a variety of different messengers. I generally keep mine logged into at least AOL IM and ICQ.

The thing that Sharky is bitching about is configurable. The thing defaults to enter=send...that's fucking stupid, but it can be changed.

Which leads me to the one bad thing I have to say about it...the configuration panels can be frustrating. It's not that it's hard to use or understand, it's just that the UI is a piss poor design.

If you have a need to communicate with people on multiple IM networks, it's definiately worth a look though.

Used trillian for many months, and asked around about this and was told that it has back doors, was told AOL tries to block connections, and I will always wonder if using trilliam played a part in my ICQ # being hijacked.

I am now an ex-user.

Preferances --> General --> Windows --> Edit ... and under the sending messages header you can change 'enter' to make a new line ...

For what its worth, I use trillian all the time now ... the main problem i found is it dosen't do much other then 'chat' with the major networks. Like if you want to send and recieve files, or other multimedia functions.

If you are thinking about using trillian for the first time, id also reccommend you install a skin such as this one: http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/skins/index...?componentID=55

I found it easier to get the hang of it in semi-familiar suroundings.

I like it and I am not a computer guru like Sharky !

Wes 06-18-2003 07:41 PM

Tonda...Trillian works great for me. I haven't had any problems *knocking on head*

Naughty 06-19-2003 08:45 AM

Trillian does keep a history, right?

With all these people who don't pay these days, it is pretty handy to keep track of conversations. I've been keeping email/icq logs for almost 7 years now and it has been most helpfull.

JR 06-19-2003 09:09 AM

i have used trillian since it came out. i have never had any problems. plus encryption is nice.

aspwm 06-19-2003 10:10 AM

Trillian is awesome in my opinion. I havent got any complains from anyone. I use it at home and at work, with multiple user names for several services.

I have had no problems sending files with the MSN or ICQ side of it, but havent tried on AIM or Yahoo ones.

Yup, its weird at first though because the history is kept in .txt files

But after you use it for a bit its fine ... not to mention the fact that you can actually keep an msn history
:agrin:

I thought you were NOPD's network technician????

I've been using Trillian Pro for a while. It works great for me. It has some cool modules you can download for it too, like a ToDo list, weather, news, etc.

Tonda_WEGCash 06-19-2003 04:52 PM

Wow some mixed feelings on this topic.

I am undecided.

Does anyone know if Trillian let's you have more than 600 ICQ contacts?
