I never knew anything about medicare never needed to until now. My grandmother is in the hospital on and off since October when she had triple bypass and then a host of virual infections and Missed diagnosis by idiot doctors who dont look at the whole picture but just 1 issue or ailment Now medicare steps in with this... Monday afternoon 4pm POURING rain outside the hospital, 4 nurses walk into my grandmothers room and announce "ok Mrs. Spear we are releasing you now" NO notice no time to get her ready as she is bed ridden. When asked why they were releaseing her all of a sudden "Medicare Guidlines" she has used her medicare benifits up! so we must release her to a secondary facility instead of waiting 1-2 days for a bed to become avail at her rehab facility. so now they will move her 2x instead of 1 Thank GOD my mother was there and told them to stick their guidlines up their ass and her mother wanst going anywhere in this weather with no advance notice. Now you can see whrere I get it from They were lucky I wasnt there. I have 1 thousand care issues that I am going to the local News with as soon as she is out of there These fucking idiots put an IV into her arm for antibiotics but never bothered to check it 4 days later her arm looks like a football and all because they missed the vein and she never got the prescribed dose of antibiotic as it was pumping into her tissue and not her blood stream, because of that she is still extremely sick. and that is just 1 problem. News orgs love this kind of shit and I have a BIG MOUTH Fuckers.... Last edited by Forest at Jun 11 2003, 04:18 AM |
Exactly why I pay over $100 a month so my Dad has a supplemental Medicare policy. You (or someone) should look into it for your grandmother. If you're expecting great things from government provided medical coverage, you're going to be greatly disappointed. :(
BTW, the "vein" missing problem happened to me when I was personally paying for the bill - Medicare has nothing to do with it. That's why experts recommend there is ALWAYS another friend/family member in the hospital as much as possible with a patient to monitor what happens. There was an interesting (and very scary) article in Reader's Digest a few months ago regarding hospital mistakes. :zoinks: Hope your grandmother's OK!! :) |

there is someone with every hour of visting hours Ive been up there for the last month. My mother is there now and we have a care giver who is with her from 1-5pm mon-fri and she is a Pit bull when it comes to my grandma she tries to keep all the hospital workers on their toes as do I coming in all biker lookin. it helps to have an attitude and not just sit there passive. you'd never get anything that way |
That sucks, Forest ... my girlfriend is the nursing supervisor at the local hospital, and they are always scrambling to find ways around the pencil necked geeks from Medicare (who really aren't that much worse than a lot of HMOs, PPOs, and private insurance plans these days).
I crank up my pissed off attitude every time I go see a doctor. Of course, I deal with the Veteran's Administration - who I think take the Administrators that are too harsh (or stupid) to work for Medicare. Most of the Doctors and the nurses have been fine - the ancillary staff ought to be taken out and horsewhipped. |
Forest I hope it all works out... Hospitals suck from what I know... I hope the rehab staff is better....
I have been in the hospital twice... Once for a burn while in the Navy, they did a great job actually.... But last year, I was having chest pains... I kinda knew it was a muscle spasm, but as it was the second time it happened and I had promised my wife if it happened again etc.... I ended up going in to get checked. Because it was chest pains, they kept me over night... Did all the bloodwork, all that. The guy in the emergency room is taking my blood and I tell him that he is taking it from a vein, I know the difference. He says no he isn't and keeps on going.. They are pumping Oxygen into the whole time... Long story short. The Doc comes back and says "Hey your Oxygen level is way way lower than it should be and she shows me the numbers etc.", I tell her that her guy took the blood from a vein, she says, no, thats not it... I look at the numbers with her again and tell her, well if it's that low I shouldn't even be moving and she agrees... And at that point I just start laughing... I had driven myself in, walked in the door, filled out the papers, and was sitting up straight right in front of her eyes and she still wouldn't believe that they had taken blood out of the vein instead of the artery.... And that was the GOOD hospital, not the county..... :headwall: |
The joke is on anyone who believed the basic idea behind SS and medicare...
When Social Security was created, the average expected lifespan was 'way less than the age of eligibility. They keep raising it to try to keep it that way. You're only supposed to pay into them, NOT collect. |
