A great Senator from NY just passed away..
|
Todd, what was his greatness, besides a unique ability to handle liquor?
|
Yes, Sen. Moynihan was a great man, and an honorable man.
He put his Nation before his political ends. |
Serge,
He was a great man, grew up even poorer then clinton. Always fought for social issues and the comman man / women. Health Care, Social Security, etc. Also, he always stood for what he thought. Many dems would get pissed at him for going against the grain sometimes. |
Hahaha A Great Man??
He was a career politician! A leech on society. A lying, hypocritical sack of dog shit, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER POLITICIAN. |

Have you gone out and voted for someone running against the incumbent? Have you even voted? Don't give me that line about "no one worthy of voting for". There are constntly good independent candidates who get lost in the shuffle, but if enough "disenfranchised" voters got together (especially locally) they could propduce a mighty large swing vote (look at Jesse Ventura getting elected as proof). Maybe you should throw your hat in the ring and run for office. While there are a lot of crooks and morons running and getting elected all the time, there are also a lot of men and women there trying to make things better (even if it's only in their own state). Everyone chimes for things like term limits. Great idea until you realize the next election may produce two weak candidate when the current office holder is doing just fine. By voting, people could get term limiots without mandating them. Why was he a lifetime politician? Gee, maybe the people in his state did this crazy thing called voting and kept re-electing him. Maybe he was doing just fine and there was no reason to otherwise put someone else in office all those years? I remember taking a Government course in highschool and one of the things that my teach said that stuck with me is "Politicians don't represent the people, they represent the voters" Back on topic, RIP Sen. Moynihan. |
He was one of the few democrats in office I actually liked. I wish there were more like him on both sides of the aisle then maybe some of the stupidity of name calling would subside.
|
I agree with you Ulfie. He was an honest liberal. He put his country firat, did not fall for trends like "politcal correctness", was strong on education ( and not BS just throwing money at the problem), he was a rarity... especially for a democrat.
|
Sykk,
hey bro, your teach had a good head on his shoulders. Well said!!! It's rare to watch cspan and see both dems and repubs sheading tears over a lost friend. He was well liked, loved by many people. They say he was one of the smartest political ppl since Lincoln. Sorta a genius I guess. As you said, RIP :) Mike, he was a rarity . --------------------------------- I remember taking a Government course in highschool and one of the things that my teach said that stuck with me is "Politicians don't represent the people, they represent the voters" |

i met him once when I was in high school and I was sent to represent our state in something in Washington. He was nice to us and fueled my interest in politics. It says something when both myself and my ultra Republican father both had great respect for him.
