With all that's going on in the world, I can't help but look 'somewhere' for answers, and possible outcomes.
Nostradamus. What do you think? Was he a man who could see the future? Or was he so enthralled with the idea of seeing the future and other esoteric/occult things that he convinced himself he could? http://www.udayton.edu/news/nr/122095.html Today, there are many perceived eerie similarities to what has played out in time and the quatrains of Nostradamus, such as the identification of Napolean, Hitler, the assasinations of the Kennedy's etc etc. His 'Third antichrist': Mabus Could Saddam be the infamous 'Mabus' Nostradamus refers to? http://www.crystalinks.com/mabus.html Could Osama Bin Ladin be 'Mabus'? http://psychicinvestigator.com/demo/Nostra2.htm (interesting the quatrain quoted here refers to 'france'....) One of his quatrains refers to the antichrist as wearing a 'blue hat'...well neither Saddam, nor Bin Ladin wears anything similar to a blue hat. There is still much speculation on who Nostradamus is refering to as the third antichrist...I find it rather intriguing...lol. |
maybe Bush is?
|
I shouted out who killed the Kennedy's When after all it was you and me Let me please introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste And I laid traps for troubadors Who get killed before they reached Bombay |
Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste isn't part of that a rolling stones song?! :P i think nostradamus was a true prophet in his time, but we have twisted his words so much through history and translations that who really knows ... grain 'o' salt! |
Sort of falls in the same category as horoscopes - if you say things in general enough terms, people will take the facts and bend them to match the predictions.

True, I've seen no one in a blue turban.
The first article also says this: "Nostradamus predicted that the third anti-Christ would be born in June 1966, his interpretation of the 666 mark of the beast in the Book of Revelation." Did some checking, came up with this: Jiang Zemin - born 1926 Jacques Chirac - born 1932 Saddam Hussein - born 1937 George W. Bush - born 1946 Bill Clinton - born 1946 Osama Bin Laden - born 1957 It also mentions the anti-christ beginning his public life at age 30, in 1996; a charismatic leader in the middle-east. The only person I can think of who came to be "known" around that time was Bin Laden, although he wasn't 30. (At least, Clinton *claims* to have known about him then and was "working as hard as [he] could" to shut him down. Putting dates on things makes it so easy to shoot down, even though I think Nostradamus' "prophecies" were merely a re-interpretation of the Bible's prophecies. Take a look at the events leading up to Armageddon and you'll also find some strange similarities to what's happening today. |
Since the conversation is mixing Revelations and Nostradamus now ...
I think that there are simple enough solutions to a book like Revelations which can be understood from the point of view of the writer, rather than from our point of view. Passages in Revelations that refer to a beast seem to be a deliberate imitation of similar passages in Daniel. Daniel is written during the Babylonian exile and his beasts were symbolism for the powerful empires and kings of his time. When one mentions "crowns", one is referring to kings. Revelations, we are told, was written by a John who was living on the island of Patmos - quite likely after the fall of the Jewish state to the Romans in 70 AD. It seems that if John was so enamored of Daniel's symbolism he might be emulating the meaning also and not just borrowing the imagery. The beast in Revelations, like the one in Daniel, rises out of the sea. Daniel seems consumed by the troubles of Rome throughout Revelations. He writes of a woman "decked in purple and scarlet" sitting on a "scarlet colored beast" that has ten horns and seven heads. Purple and scarlet are colors strongly associated with Rome, the Caears, and its soldiers. John writes that on her head is written the name "Babylon the great". A little later, he tells us that "The seven heads are seven mountains". (The 7 hills of Rome). He says the woman IS "the great city". Continually he refers to Babylon, referring to it as the city that rules over all the kings of the earth and mentioning it as being draped in purple and scarlet and prediciting it will fall. It is quite likely that he is using coded language for Rome. Some scholars have said that Babylon was used quite often as symbolism for Rome by Jews at the time. Interestingly the six most used Roman numerals were I V X L D M which sum to 666. That John would be transfixed on writing about Rome would not be surprising. Roman legions marched into Judaea in 70 AD, destroyed the temple, killing or captivating much of the population. Many others fled. Rome destroyed the Jewish homeland. [They got it back in 1948]. The wailing wall is the last remaining wall of the temple. Still standing! |

Nostradamus was surprisingly accurate. That said, though, this also needs to be said...
There are people out there who, whenever some significant event happens, create a new quatrain in his name using the known data (and a lot of imagination). These are then published as 'just-found'. They are 'internet legends'. The fact is, THERE ARE NO UNDISCOVERED WRITINGS OF NOSTRADAMUS! |
Reading Nostradamus is like reading Mad Libs of the demented Frenchman.
-- Plug into the following Mad Lib: -- The [adjective] [subject] will [time] [disaster] When [Astrological Symbol] appears [time], the [subject] mourns Another [adjective] [disaster] comes [time] -- Using -- Subject: The king, the colonel, the empire, the son, the city, the father, the chief Astrological Predictor: The sun, venus, mars, the moon, a comet Adjectives: great, minor, greater, greatest, powerful, weak, new, old Disaster: fire, flood, earthquake, war, death, disaster Time: soon, immediately, now, later Verbs: burn, be destroyed, mourn, fall -- Your new Nostradamus quatrain -- The Great City will soon be in fire when the comet appears Now, the King mourns Another great disaster comes immediately -- Another one -- The old King will war when Mars appears Later, the son mourns Another minor war comes now Last edited by Colin at Mar 10 2003, 08:26 AM |

Quote:
1: "In the year of the new century and nine months, From the sky will come a great King of Terror... The sky will burn at forty-five degrees. Fire approaches the great new city..." And 2: "In the city of york there will be a great collapse, two brothers torn apart by chaos while the fortress falls the great leader will succumb third big war will begin when the big city is burning" Neither of these quatrains exist: http://www.stiller.com/wtc.htm |

And yes, I agree there is no doubt some meaning has been lost in translation....no matter how good the translators are....IMHO you'd have to study the quatrains in french to get their whole meanings... |

I read them all when I was a kid. I agree with you and seriously doubt the 'Big N' would have made a "birthday prediction" like that. |

I agree, but I think with the dawn of the Internet it's gotten alot worse...lol. However, I for one cannot dismiss his accuracy of describing his 'Hister' and his doings.... There are several quatrains attributed to 'Hister': 2 q24 2 q42 3 q35 3 q58 3 q60 3 q63 3 q 68 4 q40 4 q68 And several more as well.... |

When you refer to passages in 'Daniel' are you referring to the Torah? Because I have also read about the similiarities between the revelations and the 'beast' coming out of the sea, and similar passages in the Torah where several beasts rise from the sea..... Basically, the revelations merge the beasts/animals into one, where as the passages in the Torah refer to the same beasts/animals as separate entities emerging from the sea. IMHO there is alot in the bible that was 'borrowed' from other sources...from parts of the revelations.....to the reference to a 'lake/pit of fire' which can be seen in the Ancient Egyptians 'Book of the Dead'..... Interesting stuff.... |

"Hister" is the Latin name for the Danube River. Nostradamus mixed Latin into his quatrains. At least some of Nostradamus' passes regarding Hister clearly refer to a river. For example, "They are said to have come from the Rhine and from Hister" 4 68 The Rhine is a German River and so is the "Hister". |

it translated poorly into contemporary French, much less any other language. believing in anything Nostradamus wrote is like believing in the Latoya Jackson Psychic Hotline. |

I was just kidding. I think we should take him at his word. Late at night, Nostradamus would take a mild hallucinogen. A little later he would sit on a brass tripod with his legs spread apart at the angle of the egyptian pyramids. He would then stare into a flame with his wand in his hand and empty his mind of everything. Then the visions came. Century VII only has 42 quatrains. The others have 100. What do you think? Answer to the Universe? Last edited by Colin at Mar 10 2003, 01:56 PM |

LMAO :P |
