The below pictures are of a guy who works for the forest service in
Alaska. He was out deer hunting. A large, world record Grizzly
charged him from about 50 yards away.

The guy unloaded a 7mm Mag Semi-auto into the bear and it dropped a
few feet from him. The thing was still alive so he reloaded and capped
it in the head. It was over one thousand six hundred pounds, 12'6" high
at the shoulder standing up. It's a world record.

The bear had killed two other people. Of course, the game department
did not let him keep it.

Ugh - I guess I should thank you Wig - that last picture is certainly a good way for me to lose weight - I doubt I'll eat anything the rest of the day :barfon:

Hey Peaches. Can't say I didn't warn you. :P

ShannonRush 02-17-2003 10:44 AM

I guess we won't be hearing anymore tales of Bigfoot now. What are they going to do with the bear?

Hehehe, but I'm used to "graphic" meaning sex around these parts - sex I can handle - mangled body parts.....not so well.... :(

Do what Shok does for me and put little white clouds covering all the offensive things :okthumb:

Did you see Boortz's Google search on his site today? :biglaugh:

JR 02-17-2003 11:09 AM

originalheather 02-17-2003 11:46 AM

Hahaha...I was expecting some pics of JR in a compromising situation...glad I have a slow connection and didn't let those pics load before scrolling! :D

I forget what the deal was but I know I've seen these pics - oh probably a year ago or so. I thought there was a write-up including pics on the urbanlegends.com website http://www.urbanlegends.com/animals/bear_attacks.html but all I found was a write-up saying that there weren't any black bear attacks in California. Then again this pic that you've posted says Alaska.

I know I received this via email awhile ago - my mom used to send me all these fantastic Urban Legend things thinking they were real. lol Fortunately now she doesn't trust anything she gets on the 'net and runs it through the UrbanLegends.com site before forwarding to the whole family.

:nyanya:

BTW...that bottom pic was just sick. Hadn't seen that one included with these before. NOTHING could prepare you for that. *shudder*

Peaches 02-17-2003 12:04 PM

Here it is - it's NOT an urban legend:

(they also were kind enough to leave out "The Leg" picture, WIG!!!) :grrr:

wig 02-17-2003 12:17 PM

P, no i didn't see boortz yet, but i will check. sorry about the "LEG". :yowsa:

i have no idea if the pics are even related. i got it all in an email from my brother.

good thing that guy had a semi-auto and not a bolt action.

DAMNMAN 02-17-2003 02:10 PM

This guy either has giant hairy balls or he shoots very straight while shiting in his pants.

I really like the 7mm Mag round it's very powerful and it's the best for long for distance. (I wouldn't intentionally hunt a bear like that with a 7mm mag, I might shit my pants a little less with a freakin' Barret .50 upon running into this huge of a varment.)

He's also very lucky he had at least that powerful of a round or the bear would have chowed on him too!

I'm sure the survival techniques like laying on the ground and covering your head that they teach about bear attacks on TV is what the poor guy did to get his leg chowed off, too. (That picture is gnarley!)

Just shows to go ya', never go into the wild with out a pea shooter.

haha... what about "Bear Mace". i always got a good laugh about that one. tourists snatch that shit right up while heading down to the river to watch brown bears feed on fish. pretty comical.

my father is a Brown Bear guide in Alaska and i have seen plenty of dead brown bears. they are tough animals. people would not be so happy to take the chance, if they had ever watched one slap around a refrigerator like it was a beach ball or seen one get shot a dozen times before finally falling.

also, this guy is probably full of shit. "he was startled, the bear charged him and he just barely had enough time to get a couple shots off before the bear fell at his feet"??

its the EXACT same story that i have heard EVERY hunter tell who went brown bear hunting and shot a bear.

Most likely, this guy knew what he was looking at, knew it was a trophy and possibly a world record bear and he shot it... making up the rest later.

Hey thanks for the link to Snopes.com Peaches - somehow I'd missed that one. It's always good to have 2 Urban Legend debunking sites in your Fav Places so you can cross-reference them.

Whatever happened - that's still a big ass scary-looking bear!
