Politics, religion, philosophy. How best to live one's life? These topics come up over and over again and people have widely varying views.

Why do we do it in the first place? Why do YOU do it?

Trying to convince someone else of your point of view?
Trying to convince yourself of your point of view?
Need someone to talk to?
Dunno .. it's what everyone else was talking about.
"I'm promoting my product. Click my link!"

Or ... ?

Colin maybe this is why we have war in the first place. People can't agree and the desire for domination.

I honestly don't like to debate. My feeling is that we're all different in our views and that's cool. I don't want to be forced to beleive something nor do I ram my shit down someones throat. I feel really uncomfortable when someone gets up in my face demanding anything, much less facts.

I get this all the time because my sites are primarily femdom. Most is fantasy but people just can't seem to get that and take it literally. I'm interviewed like crazy, emailed a million questions about research, facts, concepts, etc. I just don't have that kind of time.

I love to sit down with an intellectual yet open minded being and have deep conversation over a bottle of wine. I love to talk about religions, business, spirituality and sex. I just don't need to have someone try and convince me that their way is the right way. I stay clear of people like that.

Great topic BTW!

Because it's boring as hell talking to ourselves and our pets :okthumb:

I would call it processing, while we never find the final answers our minds keep processing and exchanging the information which surround us - to find out "why"... its the curse of man, since we ate the forbidden fruit

It's all about learning - you can never see all sides from where you sit.

Hey, we agree one something. :)

Rox 02-04-2003 11:02 AM

When I do it here, it's usually to learn, as Alex said... to see everyone else's side.

When I do it in places like the Yahoo! or AOL boards, it's to rile up the morons and then tear apart their arguments. :nyanya:

(edited for typo)

Mine do too, but they're liberals - they always have their hand (paw?) out and refuse to work for anything, expecting everything to be given to them.

Because I ponder things......... things that people have strange replies to. I could write a book on my ponders, nothing save the world like, just regular every day things..... I won't go on, Toolz goes into daylight dreams when i start rambling. :agrin:

I just like figuring out how people arrive at their positions and seeing what might change their minds.

RawAlex 02-04-2003 11:02 PM

I actually do get a big kick out of seeing if I can be convincing enough to get someone to think outside of their personal limits - and I am often challenged here to do the same with my limits...

Debate sometimes peels back the blinders enough for you to actually learn something.

Itsn't that odd ... my cats are conservatives. They are more than willing to sit back and live off the sweat of the poor lower class beings (such as humans) put on earth to serve them. :D

I'm in search of the inconsistencies and weaknesses in my points-of-view. I've learned a lot from the boards and the whole process of putting one's views out there for people to read.

I don't really aim to try and convince other people of my points of view. I think that close to futile and a waste of time really. I do find it fascinating to see whom is most interested in learning and will acknowledge other people's good points quickly and with little hesitation.

I learn more from Oprano than anywhere else which is I why I like it here best.
