Digital technology has advanced so much in the past few years. It seems like everyone with a digital camera wants to become a content provider. As noted in another forum, quality beats quantity.
What are the best digital camera’s and why? Video and still. I’m going to be investing in new video equipment & I’d like to hear from you what you feel is the best choice for cameras and lights. Thanks DV |
What's your price range? We are real happy with the setup we use, but your looking at $5k to duplicate it.
Video: Sony VX-2000 Video Camera 3 Lowel Caselite 2 bulb - I'd do 4 bulb's for more light Still: Olympus e-10 - out of production but you can find them on ebay 2 UltraZap 1600 and 1 800 from White Lighting http://www.white-lightning.com/ For video you also need fast computers and lot's of disk space. |
Thanks Jerry!
Well you know I plan on stealing your ass when I start editing. You'll be well fed during my learning curve! Thanks for the info. What software do you use? What specs on the PC do you think is best? Last edited by Dianna Vesta at Jan 24 2003, 08:43 AM |
all i know about content production is that there is a revolution going on, yesterday i did nothing but emails with people looking for custom content, mostly video, 12 straight hours. I think the death march of cookie cutter paysites is underway.
Not going to make anybody in the content production biz rich though, prices are ridiculously low. I'm trying to come up with a price on some reality video scenes for somebody, problem is that if i get down to a price the customer will most likely accept, there's hardly any profit left over. |
Mutt
I always say a little piece of everybody's pie is easier than trying to bake the pie yourself. |
Exactly Mutt. But based on what Primetime says the models get paid shit and we make all the money. Maybe they meant video markets.
Anyhow, I think you're right. Exclusive content is the ticket now. I've recieved a lot of email too. The bottom line is that they'll pay if you have what they want and it sells. You can't recyle exclusive. I guess that's my next question for webmasters buying exclusive- what are you willing to pay these days? |
DV,
We're producing 4 different reality sites now. Customers pay us $2500-3500 per episode. New one with me on the front page, which is under development...sneak preview at: http://www.HornyGrocer.com/demo |
damn Gregg you must be talking to a whole other crowd than me. Nobody i talk to wants to spend anywhere near that kind of money. Half of that.
And the amazing thing is that there are guys out there shooting reality scenes for half that. One guy told me he is paying the guy shooting his scenes $150 whole dollars! What kind of idiot shoots a day of video for $150? Give my two guys a $3,000-3,500 budget and they will blow people away. So if anybody wants to spend some decent money on video scenes let me know custom@wantongirls.com |
Horny Grocer looks cute. Are you the Horny Grocer in all the scenes Gregg?
|
How many 'episodes' do you think are necessary to launch a reality video site? And how frequently should new episodes be added? Weekly? Or do you think bi-weekly(update once every two weeks) is enough?
|
Hey Mutt,
Just did one scene myself...the client flew in and the male talent didn't show up...did one for the cause :) Best episode of course...now he wants me to do more...sheesh. |
For video cameras, I would have to say that the Canon XL-1S is a really nice piece, super high quality.... but not all shooters are comfortable with what is a shoulder mount camera, not really a "hand held"...
but if it's good enough for broadcast, it's good enough for porn. Stills are more of a challenge, that market is moving so fast... There are a couple of Sony cameras that give nice results, Canon does a real high end digital (about $8k)... It's a fast moving marketplace. Alex |
I say go with the Canon GL-2, nice size and great quality 3cdd and a canon lense. We used a Sony the past few years, and it was great, but when we went to buy new cameras, we selected the GL2. Canons have better sound and the white balance is a bit warmer than the Sony. For $2400, or less now, it is a great camera.
For still, we use Canon D30s and D60s, with Canon L series lenses (the 28-70mm F2.8 to be exact). Lights are essential! We use Photoflex with SoftBoxes. ARRI, CoolLux, Lowell all make nice lights. Mole Richardson is top of the line. If money is no object go with HMI's over tungsten. HMI's are cloror balanced to daylight and use lower wattage, and just give off really nice light. Otherwise, be carful around windows :o |

As for computers the faster the better (Duh), however, do not overlook putting a good computer togther. Not all PIV 2.8GHz are the same. Make sure you get a good mother board, 533Mhz Front side bus with support for 333Mhz DDR memory, and GOOD memory, like Corsair. DDR 333Mhz. It all makes a difference, and when you are rendering video for hours and hours it adds up :yowsa: |

Our prices are high for two reasons, we deliver a quality product and we work our butts off to deliver it on time. Plus the sites we do content for convert. Customers like that for some reason. Mutt, we get requests for lots of things we can't do and I'm looking for good teams to send them out to. I'll email you when we need another team. Last edited by JerryW at Jan 24 2003, 07:52 PM |
Good point Plugger, there are guys who shoot basically to get laid, money is secondary.
Thanks Jerry, send your castoffs to me :groucho: |
1- sony 2000 - $2000
1- PC w/PIII or AMD - $1000 1- Medea Video Raid - $1000 1- Lights - hire a pro lightning guy or gal for an hour and explain what you want to do and they can tell you what to buy. Then hire them for another hour after you buy the lights and have them show you the best way to light it. You will need at least three lights, if they tell you to buy an HMI get a second opinion. I doubt you need one, many that do have them don't know how to light with them. You should take a few minutes and refer back to the messages you posted in the longest oprano thread in history. I hope your not planning on going in another direction, you uncovered the holy grail. If you execute the things that you suggested might work I bet you a spanking that in 2-4 years you will be well on your way to great wealth. It's about niche, a sophisticated audience, quailty in entertainment value and delivering a unique and personal experience to the viewer. You should be active working on that community, the audience that migrates will likely spend a very long time with you if you do. No one can match you for your competitive edge. Your years of experience and the knowledge you have are unique and very niche. :okthumb: |

I'm a one woman show. I'm not baby to the adult biz nor to life in general. Whatever I make up my mind to do I will not only do but do well. I just needed to decide that I was best doing what I know and not doing it for someone else. I approached a few people in the past that I felt I could team up with and had a few offers but declined. I will tell you that I will be a force to be reckoned with once I start moving! I'm pretty damn hell bent. I want to build sites but I have a clear vision on what I want. I've listened to advice, read comments on old business models that I feel won't work in the future.I think I know what will and agree that people stay a very long time if you interact with them and focus on the people who seek quality and not the charge backing one handed bandit that regrets an evening of fornication. I know because my business was built on that all these years. My strong suit is not traffic. It's concepts, production and management. I want to build these sites and look to team with a strong company, already trafficing niche, to handle the back end of my soon to be empire! www.othersex.com - a community- everything I talked about before & more www.sexslaveacademy.com - this site is live and doing great. I think it could do better. The content is outstanding. The concept even better. www.forbiddengarden.com - a site that is community based but focuses on stories. I'm so fucking sick of seeing story sites with bullshit. Being an erotic writer I feel that the public deserves more. How can you hire good erotic writers when you only want to pay pennies for stories? I have my own writers and feel that stories should be presented well and to an intelligent subscriber. Forbidden Garden is for couples and singles. Watch it kick ass. I've worked for adult companies and seen where they went wrong and right. Times are changing. That's for sure! Thanks again. I'd like to speak with you via ICQ is you have time. Mine is 365555 I'm in Key largo until tomorrow. This week is the calm before the storm. Kiss DV |
