MONTREAL — Manwin has struck a deal with Wicked Pictures to manage Wicked's paysites, the companies announced Tuesday.

I noticed the press release on XBiz is slightly different than the one on AVN. The AVN one actually ends with:

“Another thing that paved the way for this deal was their willingness to work with us and other studios towards controlling piracy and to work towards implementing Vobile’s MediaWise software available through APAP."

That "controlling piracy" really stood out. Of course, I don't take it as they plan to stop it...just control it so they become the biggest pirates!

Danny, you hit it. Basically, Manwin has maneuvered themselves into being one of the top tube site operators, and this software is a key in the game. Once a few more are signed on, they will likely use it to scan other websites, and use those results to sue people out of the business.

What that are doing is attempting to create a vertical market for their products. Everyone who plays on their team will be on the biggest tubes, and everyone who does not will be locked out. Other tube sites won't be able to use the content, effectively creating a nice big wall between one side and other other.

The real key will be how many studios are willing to sign up.

The people that "succeeded" (and sure, thats up for discussion as well), but the people that are VERY well off.. aren't the ones that cared about what YOU or 'that other guy' wanted..

Might not be the best example, but its one of the best.. Zynga.. $600M+/yr.. does anyone of you REALLY think they cared what happened to the 'gaming industry'.. EA, Disney, both acquired major 'farmville'ish' companies as soon as they could.. And I've talked to a few decent sized gaming companies.. about buying them.. one of them told me they'd never sell to EA, because they require 120 hr weeks.. and immediate results..

NO ONE truly 'succeeds', without essentially being a company that just cares about profit..

And that said, why should anyone in the "Adult Industry"?..

When everyone had 65% margins, sure, throw a vegas party.. or orlando,, or miami.. we were all there.. even though I have little interest in letting you know who i am..

These days, for me, success is just having a good time, making enough money to live well and retire on, and that's about it. Ten to fifteen years ago I worked my ass off to build what I started, and I was quite successful at it. Since then, I have completely downsized, moved my own office back to my home, and just take it easy doing little odds and ends that interest me. I've never "talked the talk", nor bragged about the money I have made or how successful I have been. People that knew me back when, know I did well. I'm not doing anywhere close to what I was doing 10 years ago, then again, I'm not even trying to.

I'm the first to admit I just don't have the drive or ambition to be one of the "Big Boys". As long as I have enough money to feed my travel and sailing habit, and can retire comfortably when the time comes, then I consider myself to be a great success!

Yes, there was an adult business before BBS', websites, (both of which I've had since the early 90's.)

Way back in the "old days" we had video stores, (of which, I owned 4,) and before that, we had a brisk business in regular & super 8mm films. (Although, those were mostly sold "out of the trunk," as the adult industry was closer to the "illegal" side, than the legal side. It wasn't referred to as "the adult industry" then. Back then, we were just "porn dealers."

You have no idea how easy you have it.

That's how we got our start. I started my first BBS back in Calgary in 1988. Then had one in Nova Scotia, then hooked up with the guy running the largest Adult BBS when I moved back here to Montreal. In early 1994, we started playing around with this new WWW thing as we set up an early ISP here in Montreal and I had server space and bandwidth to play with. By 1996, we were pulling in over $30K a month from our home video sales and advertising on Carol's website. We started the actual pay site in January of 1997, and that took off far beyond my wildest expectations! It took me until March of 1997 to finally quit my Lead Engineer job at Bell Helicopters and start doing this full-time.

I really miss those early days when it was all so new and fun.

These days, I put out a lot of stuff in mainstream for travel and sailing, my hobbies. Make decent money from it actually, and it keeps me busy.

I can beat you all! I shot my very first "Porn" image way back in 1975 when I was 15 years old. I took my father's Polaroid camera and took a picture of my girlfriend sucking my cock! I even made money from it, charging guys smokes and quarters (to buy smokes) to have a look. That made me a "Professional Pornographer" 35 years ago! ;)

I remember when I thought I was on the internet because I was on a bbs. However, it was a swinger bbs and we did meet lots of people. Then one of them showed me the real internet. I spent 20 minutes downloading a picture and was amazed. Julia looked at it and said there's gotta be money in this. I borrowed a really crappy digital camera and proceeded to figure out how to get on "the net". That was 13 years ago....wow. A whole lot has happened in a decade

I had my first store at 9 years old. (1974) It wasn't porn though. It was toys and candy. (Ricky's Toy and Candy) It was a real store, built on a concrete pad, made from a brand new steel shed kit, (10 X 10) bought at JCPenny for $199, for which I paid "rent" of $10/month. Dad paid for the concrete foundation, which is actually still there.

That was my first lesson in "free Publicity." Got a full 1/3rd page in the paper with two photos, and an in -depth "Business kid" story. Best profit? Red Swedish jelly fish. Bought 480 piece boxes, for $3.80 and sold them for a penny each from apothecary jars. Made $1 profit a week on that product line alone. (Big money for a 9 year old kid in 1974.)

Caught the bug back then, and it never went away. Didn't start selling "tickets" to our super 8mm movie "theater" to the neighborhood kids until I was 12.

I actually started with PC Board for the first BBS in Edmonton back in the mid 1980's, then moved to Wildcat when I set up my next BBS in Calgary. I much preferred Wildcat. I still have the original Wildcat software on 5.25 floppies!

I do have to clean up some of that old software. Anyone need an original dBase on 5.25?? ;)
