Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
Is this the whimper or will there be a bang?
I really love this board and its a shame to see this happening. I stopped by industry old school and realized that those days and those people are becoming faded glory. Like a bunch of old hippies talking about the glory days of Acapulco Gold and Orange Sunshine. No one cares and worse still, in a few short years, no one remembers. I think that when the going got tough and the easy money dried up, those guys really had no skill. You just can't argue with the result. |

I guess this industry has finally weeded out a lot of people, some pretenders, some one hit wonders and all of the dead weight that was just here for fun or as a hobby. kudos to the few who 's business has been growing the last couple years (that haven't done so through illegal methods.) |
Re: Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
so....the pretenders...lets list them
I can think of a few...nick@ilynx....serge oprano....webfather....dragonking...sabby...the enforcer...hammer...jeff miller....anthony...vick....trishauptown...JoesHo. ..JR...Jace...morgan grayson...peaches....12 clicks and that pussy cat girl that used to pitch him. I am sure there is a lot more. On the other hand, there are survivors...anyone care to mention anyone in either category or have any thoughts on the above? |
Re: Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
I do know quite a few who made their money and got out. Something I really should have done 10 years ago! ;)
Like most of the old-timers, I made my REAL money last century and luckily, put most of it away. I really just stay on-line to keep busy and because we still have pretty good money coming in from very little work. I do some mainstream stuff dealing with travel and sailing, but those are more vanity projects that I do for fun (although there is money there too) But yes, many of the mouthpieces from days gone by have crashed and burned quite dramatically! |
Re: Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
We have spoken about this in years past.
Its still a comfortable living but yes the work is a good bit more these days. I speak with people that arent on this board and that still make a nice living but they are working nonstop. Its certainly given me a finely tuned skill set that I can apply for a number of projects to be comfortable with and have the appearance of being respectable past the age of 50. You would be surprised what skill sets still work and how they are being employed. Graham.... if you will PM me here Id like to extend you an offer for some free promo to make up for you getting fucked in the ass a few years ago. I know I wasnt involved but youve been a good friend over the years and you might get a grin out of what I am up to. If Danny are Carol have been paying attention they are well aware of my rise to prominence in the last year in quite an odd space. I toy back and forth with making the entire board invisible to anyone that doesnt know its here and have an id. I again ask everyones thoughts as I certainly dont need the street cred and would be amused if the animals at the Zoo thought it was gone when in fact I took the entire community private. |

I work 3x harder to make a 1/3 of the revenue. But since I was making a LOT in the past, what i do now is still not too shabby. My montra these days is " reduce expenses, maximize profit from existing traffic as much as possible". I've got some ideas on how to revamp things here and get it making some ad money but like anything else it would take a little work to get it in place, it would involve me and i'd like to be cut in on some of the $$$ if it takes back off :) |

Re: Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
It was in the past that you could make money doing one thing, and then shift over to the next new thing and make some money there, and so on. You didn't even have to go full in two feet first to make it, you could dabble for cash.
What caught a lot of people out is that suddenly, nothing works like it did before, the income levels have dropped, and there is very likely no next big thing to move on to. Guys like Steve Lightspeed got caught with no next step that made anything for them. It's where Manwin is making a killing now, generating internal traffic and having the money to keep their stuff fresh. Basically, the rich get richer, the poor can't keep up. The gap between big programs and small programs has never been so big. |

Only two big companies that I am aware of over the last 5 years that have been buying up everything. DeeCash and and Manwin. Well everyone knows what Dee's game was and how he took companies on the decline and was able to buy them and make tons of money from them. I haven't figured out Fabian's angle, but I seriously doubt its some magic business formula that no one else has been able to crack. Fabian explained once that he would buy a company, turn it around, make it profitable and then take the money from that to buy the next, bigger property. That sounds great in theory, but no one is going to hit a home run with every purchase and you not going to go from 0M to 100M doing that in less than 2 years time, especially in the late 2000's. If I had to guess, I'd bet it's money laundering. That he was the front guy for an illegal operation that was buying up companies with dirty money so they had a way to get back clean money and even if they lost money its still cheaper than trying to clean it from other means. But that is my guess. Other than that I don't know how they doing it, but I suspect the truth will come out sooner or later just like it did for Dee. I know a few people who made a ton of money from email spam, but they go on at length telling people how it was from SEO, giving tips and all kinds of bullshit about building sites, duplicating the process, it takes time blah blah blah, while all along 98% of their income was from mailing. When i see Fabian talk it gives me the same feeling. |

I agree about the math not adding up. There's substantial additional funds coming in from somewhere. |
Re: Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
My income from online biz, which is my only job, keeps going up every year. However it's because I am trying hard to diversify my online income streams. I have about an equal amount of adult and mainstream sites.
I have my own retail online stores where I sell items I buy wholesale, ebay sales, Amazon sales, normal marketing sales sites, adult blogs, dating sites, tourist sites, sell ads on sites, hosting accounts, SEO guy and lots more. I just made 2 new hentai sites that are doing well, making a new mainstream site today, got a few more in the works. Frankly I can make as much as I want online. It's only limited to the amount of time I have to put into them. Never stick to one thing, you'll get killed every time. |

My God you're pathetic rhetorical. You're lost, I swear.
All you do is reminisce about people who don't even know you. By the way, Morgan Grayson passed away several years ago. |

Well, i heard the same thing back in '88 during the meese commission, about the adult video industry then......and I'm still here.
It's doesn't "go away." It just changes. |
Re: Would the last one leaving please turn off the lights
Last one out, well that will probably be me. I put naked girls on the internet long before the www, long before bbs. I came into it broke, haven't made squat, still broke, and I'm not quittin! I enjoy taking pix of girls, and once in a while the websights even treat. Cool enough. I'd like more, but hey quit why? Oh and as I said before I get my electric from the Sun, no electric co shutting my lights off.

I am amazed that you are still in the porn biz, Evil. You are lookin a little long in the tooth. I guess it is a little too late to go back to school to learn a real skill. Interesting who is still left standing...or in this case...limping along in porn. |
