Ribs across America....
Just crossed the border. Here we are at a Flying J's truck stop in Tacoma Wa. in our recreational vehicle. Heading down the I5 toward Oregon and due south . No idea where we are going or where we will wind up but I will keep you posted.....

Re: Ribs across America....
Ill start researching the RIb joints in Charlotte.
Ill be in Atlanta at the end of the month. |
Re: Ribs across America....
well, here I am in Medford Oregon in another truck stop drinking JD and wondering if the snow in the mountains will be a problem tomorrow. Perhaps, highway 1 down the coast may be in the cards. Hmmmmm. Nothing as serene as drinking JD straight from the bottle and contemplating the future. I could even get sublime enough to apologize to Raw Alex......prolly not. LOL

They usually keep I-5 over the Siskiyou's plowed and sanded unless the snow is falling faster than they can keep up with. |
Re: Ribs across America....
Hope you are having fun.. I'll be checking in with you very soon....

Re: Ribs across America....
Finally made it to California. We're lost in the redwoods of Humboldt County trying not to slip on the milk and get stuck in the honey. The pavement seems shiny and has an eerie yellowish glow.

Re: Ribs across America....
Montgomery Inn in Cincinnati, but I think Walts in Northern Kentucky is better
|
Re: Ribs across America....
I'm of the opinion that there is no really spectacular BBQ west of the Rockies or north of the mason dixon line.

Re: Ribs across America....
Wisconsin Dells is more of a summer destination but the food there is great.
I haven't been there in years but they have the best ribs on the planet. http://www.houseofembers.com/ And this place has some of the best steaks on the planet http://www.del-bar.com/main.htm |
Re: Ribs across America....

Re: Ribs across America....
The southeast is already seeing 60's and 70's.
Though typically we'll get one more cold blast for a few days before spring really settles in. The quality of your BBQ picks up in Texas, KC, Memphis and peaks as you enter the deep south. |
Re: Ribs across America....
Just outside of Tombstone for a couple of days and the weather is improving. Roswell and El Paso on the horizon. Finally settling into the trip with the sunshine.
|
Re: Ribs across America....
OK, so far its "The Snazzy Pig" in Roswell New Mexico. Hands down the best ribs so far. The worst.....again hands down .....Tomaine Tony's Pit BBQ in El Paso. Walked out after one bite. Worse than Dixie's.

Re: Ribs across America....

Ya gotta love LA....where else can you watch a movie (Enter Laughing) and spend the evening listening to Carl Reiner reminisce in the company of a few dozen die hard core movie junkies.

so we enjoy a little snow when we get it. you should try a southern circuit in spring or fall when weather is at it's best. i heard someone hint at a little FFN road trip hitting jack daniels distillery, ribs in memphis and then hanging out for a day or three in the casinos on the river and eating with Paula Deen.... |

I'll bring my bottle of Old Weller. These may be fighting words, but I think those Kentucky boys do it better anyway. Hell, it took Jack 7 tries to get it right, recipe is Old Number 7....the first 6 sucked. But Jack's a legend, and they do a tour. It's the power of good branding. |
