Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
OK...some people have wondered what I am up to...
So here goes....... ( beware , longish post coming) Ages ago I had the idea of opening a church. At the time , It was tongue in cheek and nigh on blasphemous and probably illegal lol However the thought has always been in the back of my mind (Many of you may know that in my youth I attended a religious school and attended church everyday.) For some time now I have honestly been thinking of some way to "give back" and this feeling has been further kindled by the spate of disasters around the world. That said , I am not a very religious man within the strict terms of many of the orgainised churches , but I do consider myself a Christian. I have been bored with and pretty much to all intents and purposes out of the adult business for some time now.But thankfully the adult business allowed me to hone certain talents. I have been doing a great deal of research into this mattrer and thus It is my intent to open an online christian forum , manage it and garner traffic to it and orgainse representives of various Christian orgainisations to participate in it. I am not a minister , however I can bring the adminstrative and management structure and most importantly...traffic to it :) Thought I should let you know :) And yes it will earn money , hopefully a great deal because if it does it will mean a great deal of money can go toward nondenominational acts of charity and good works. I await the mocking :) |

Re: Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
Actually that sounds like an excellent idea. There's no reason at all why people can't take control of their own spirituality and express it in their own ways.. How the heck else do a million different religions all based on the same book with the same words in it get formed? Personally, I don't hold with Christianity, but I have a lot of respect for people who don't allow others to control or manipulate what they believe or how they worship. Mocking, far from it. A standing ovation is more like it.

Didn't want "Nick is doing a church as a scam" rumour running wild. Nor the "Nick is born again" rumour LOL It will earn money and it will also disperse money |
Re: Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
If you're not taking the piss, then it is a very noble thing to do.

When you told me of this venture in Vancouver, I was a tad skeptical but after getting to know you and the good works ahead, knew that it was something that you truly believed in and needed to do. I was drawn to this, as it provides a way to give back to those who are less fortunate, and in dire need of help through our respective religious beliefs, which is difficult to sometimes maintain in an adult environment. I am honoured and proud to be able to play a small part in this, to help others ..

Delighted to have you as a partner in this venture. |
Re: Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
I have no doubts it will be a success....plus there are already "Christian" debt relief and Christian dating sponsors, so there are already sponsors awaiting the traffic.

I think it's pretty cool. I was raised with TOO much religion (IMO) and whereas I'm not a big fan of organized religion (read: churches) I think I'm spiritual. There are churches I enjoy going to and I like going to different types of places and seeing different traditions.
I think the Bible has been rewritten so many times that I don't take everything it says literally but I do believe it was written originally by men of God and I try to "read" what they meant when they wrote it. I regret not taking my son to church though, but he believed as I do so I hopefully did the right thing. |

Chaucer: I will eviscerate you in fiction. Every pimple, every character flaw. I was naked for a day; you will be naked for eternity. Trev Wat (Trev): Uh, betray us, and I will fong you, until your insides are out, your outsides are in, your entrails will become your extrails I will w-rip... all the p... ung. Pain, lots of pain. "Sounds ... interesting," he said skeptically.
The mere discussion of religion brings out an interesting dynamic, even here on Oprano. The vehement attacks on the very idea of a higher power, and the bitter denunciations of organized religion (particularly on the papists) have a zeal about them that is downright religious in nature, and a redundancy that reeks of a dogma learned from an oft-recited catechism. |

Although I'm not christian myself, I have a very strong grasp of the fundamentals (I spent years religion-searching), I'd be happy to help however I can, because it will end up being for a good cause in the end ;)

Re: Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
Repent Sinners! repent while you can, for after reading this post I believe we are in our final days. Nick the Anti-Christ has started down the path of fulfilling the prophisised scripture. He has opened the first of the seven seals.
The first seal introduces the antichrist (Revelation 6:1-2) Shut off your computers, repent, and await the arrival of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Edit.....I forgot to wish you well with your new project :) |

I have a profound dislike for religion.
On the other hand, I like the idea of you giving to charity... Once again, it's gray... |

It has been a constant argument internally for me. Given I am not the most "holy" guy in the world. :) However I do want to do good works , so I thought rather than sit round and do nothing...do something , and prepare to be flexible and move with what works. |
Re: Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
I despise giant organized religions. Yet, truely, I consider myself very much a spirtual person. Religious? No. Spiritual, yes.
Sounds like a joke, but seriously .... There's long been a need for something in between ... that didn't involve grape kool-aid. |
Re: Lets let the cat out of the bag then...
Again I state that I feel organized religion is completely different than being spiritual. I know many atheists I consider more spiritual than some professed "Christians".
My friend who is from a VERY strong Catholic family had a sister who dated then married a Jew. I asked her father if it bothered him. He said he'd rather the guy be strong in his Jewish beliefs (which he was) than weak in his Christian beliefs. Makes a lot of sense, IMO. |

It appears there is a market right here for what I propose doing.....
