Unknown group claims London attack in Qaeda's name -ANSA

MILAN (Reuters) - A previously unknown group claimed responsibility in the name of al Qaeda for a series of blasts in London that killed at least two people and wounded 185, the Italian news agency ANSA reported on Thursday.

The "Secret Group of al Qaeda's Jihad in Europe" claimed the attack in a Web site posting and warned Italy and Denmark to withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, ANSA said.

The claim could not be verified and did not appear on any of the Web sites normally used by al Qaeda.

"Heroic fighters of the Arab nation, it is time for revenge against the crusader and Zionist British government, in response to the massacre carried out by Great Britain in Iraq and Afghanistan," ANSA quoted the message as saying on a site it named as "el qal3ah.com".

"We command the Italian and Danish governments to pull their troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan."

Dunno, if these are the fucktards behind the blasts...

And relatively small aswell, could have been far worse, London used to get bigger ones than that every few months with the IRA.

When you look what happened in Madrid, London's been pretty lucky.

As you say this is nothing in comparison to all the years of being bombed by the IRA.

At least 45 people are reported to have been killed and 1,000 injured in a series of co-ordinated terror attacks on London.

Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt said the figures, which could rise, were from a reliable, but unofficial source.

Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.

We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

I wouldn't go with that just yet, the police are still saying only 2 confirmed dead, 150 critically ill and over 1000 injured.

Trev 07-07-2005 10:28 AM

33 confirmed dead so far.

Bhelliom 07-07-2005 10:32 AM

Hey this sucks... just heard about it on cnn this morning

although those morons are just spreading the fear and not really reporting too much

This unheard of faction is going to have to get in line as there have been other groups claiming to be responsible for the bombings.

Damn. That just pisses me off.

Hope all our UK friends are ok as well as their family and friends.

If your cable/satellite provider offers it, BBC America's picking up the actual BBC feed.

The CNN coverage was the worst I've ever seen them do. I didn't even bother with MS-NBC, and I have an F-chip that limits my viewing of Fox (medical necessity - blood pressure).

The looney-tunes are out on the call-in shows; the majority of callers on c-span radio are either hand-wringing sob-sisters who think we make them attack us, or knuckle-dragging knuckleheads who are still unclear about the differences between Saddam & Osama, al-Qaida and Irag.

The Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has issued a statement following the terror attacks in London, which have claimed at least 33 lives.

Mr Livingstone said: "This was a cowardly attack, which has resulted in injury and loss of life. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been injured, or lost loved ones. I want to thank the emergency services for the way they have responded."

He went on to describe how London was prepared for just such an attack and that emergency plans had been in place since September 11. He said: "One of the exercises undertaken by the government, my office and the emergency and security services was based on the possibility of multiple explosions on the transport system during the Friday rush hour. The plan that came out of that exercise is being executed today, with remarkable efficiency and courage, and I praise those staff who are involved."
He added: "This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty and the powerful. It was not aimed at Presidents or Prime Ministers. It was aimed at ordinary, working-class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christian, Hindu and Jew, young and old. It was an indiscriminate attempt to slaughter, irrespective of any considerations for age, for class, for religion, or whatever."

Condemning those who carried out the attack, he said: "This is just an indiscriminate attempt at mass murder and we know what the objective is. Londoners will not be divided by this cowardly attack. They will stand together in solidarity alongside those who have been injured and those who have been bereaved and that is why I'm proud to be the mayor of that city."

Addressing the attackers directly, he said: "I know that you personally do not fear giving up your own life in order to take others - that is why you are so dangerous. But I know you fear that you may fail in your long-term objective to destroy our free society and I can show you why you will fail.
"In the days that follow you will see that people from around the world will arrive in London to fulfil their dreams and achieve their potential.

"They choose to come to London to live the life they choose. They flee you because you tell them how they should live. Nothing you do, however many of us you kill, will stop that flight to our city where freedom is strong and where people can live in harmony with one another. Whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail."

Anyone concerned about friends or relatives in London can contact the emergency helpline on:

0044 (0) 870 156 6344.

Dravyk 07-07-2005 02:26 PM

Yep, went straight to the source, BBC America, also.

Tragic. :(

Good news, Newton! Hope everyone else there, and folks with people there, are all alright.

Hang in there Lee...You'll hear from your parents soon. I'm sure they are trying
to contact you to let you know they're doing OK. :)

JR 07-07-2005 03:48 PM

whats the point of immediately condemning the attacks? would there otherwise be an assumption that the government supported them?

US and Britain should learn from Russia... say a gas line blew up and deny any terrorist involvement and act puzzled that such an assumption came up. no reason to empower terrorists when you can downplay everything and then go quietly kidnap them and shoot them in the face.

Trev 07-07-2005 04:02 PM

I hope they are ok Lee, they'll be trying to get in touch with you as hard as you are them I'm sure, more crossed fingers here.

A gasline that takes out three train stations miles from each other and a bus on the street?

JR, I highly respect you, but I have to tell you that "spin doctoring" is NOT your forte.
