It's certainly drawing a lot of people to it.
Nevermind inside, there were approx 400,000 people outside. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/29/...main/index.html |

I'd say there are about 1,537,195 people outside (give or take a few) and that's just on the Island |
I guess unemployment must be higher, look at all the people who have so much free time on their hands.
I will not be shocked if the protests get violent. There are some groups out there who consider themselves anarchists..... If they do start trouble, I hope they get the beat down they deserve from the NYPD. |

And I'm sure there are plenty of off duty NYPD's marching along too. |

And I'm sure there are plenty of off duty NYPD's marching along too.
You're joking right?? First I doubt there are many off duty NYPD officers doing anything - during big events these guys put in HUGE overtime hours. With all the anarchists, and other leftist groups trying to cause trouble - this pulls away resources from potential MAJOR threats - especially those by terrorists. Will be interesting to see how it turns out - hopefully everything will be peaceful, and there are no major problems. |
Gotta book a flight...scored a shitload of oxycontin below wholesale.
NY here I come. :salute: |

Actually a lot like many of the people that hang out at certain boards.... Being in the porn business does put us on the fringe. |

Guess we should be lucky those awful people utilizing their right to protest aren't just shot on sight or put in to concentration camps for disagreeing with the Grand Old Party! God Bless America! :salute: |
Mike, I think the whole society is fringe these days. Everyone has an agenda, and everyone has been clustered into special interest groups.
it will be interesting to see if the protests last the entire time, and how much of it gets blamed on Kerry. Alex |

man I thought I was kinda on the fringe... but Colin you are WAAAY out there!! :nyanya:
Fringe? There's nothing fucking fringe about any of the upper middle class "englightened" here. The Da Vinci Code and Ayn Rand are actually topics people discuss here: welcome to the world of pop philosophy and self contrived intellectualism. Calling yourself the "fringe" is like the teeny boppers that dye their hair black and call themselves goth. |

i don't think it's in the democrats/leftists/anti-bushist's best interests for there to be any mayhem or violence.
the major story yesterday was 400,000+ americans against bush, not discussion about the republican platform. this has to piss off the GOP. if i was a republican strategist i'd have been spending the last year or so setting up naive anti-bush protestors to go around spreading mayhem to try to discredit the protesters and their message. let's see how things develop over the next few days. |
I saw an interesting item on MSNBC regarding the protestors...aparently there are different factions and a lot of them are just ordinary war protestors who are protesting the war and not necessarily Bush...most have stated they aren't Kerry supporters, they are just opposed to the war.
Of course there was a panel of Republican strategists when this was mentioned, so could be a bunch of horseshit...oh wait, the Republicans wouldn't state something that's not true, right? Or maybe read to much into something... |

The more I read posts by staunch repubs , the more I see them as not to far off the extremist stance of fundamental muslims , christians etc.... What happened to reason. The entire republican manifesto is "They are all out to get us , we will protect you" Admit it!!!! Bush is a fuck up. the only people that don't see are "Fundamental Repubs" Down with Evolution!!!! ;-))) |
The right wing at least has enough sense to impart a watered down national socialist mindset to it's congregation. To make it easy if/when when the actual implementation comes. They don't forget their roots.
The hippy, pacifist, left wing tards & simpletons would be like deers caught in headlights when an actual marxist ripped their balls off and force fed them to them as a show of support for the proletariat cause. Marx is turning over in his grave. The dialectic has been turned into mind-numbing mass marketed, soccer mom, cell phone debates. |
McCain was weak.... Guiliani was good....
I saw the clips from the actor Ron Silver and he pretty much represents my view. I think we need someone who sees islamicists for the world threat they are. We need to defeat them now. After this we can turn country back over to the Clintons. |
Dear Oprano,
I can't tell the difference between the conservative whackos and the liberal ones. Sincerely. One of the whackos in the middle. |
Colin, good observation...
(sorry, for the following off-topic babble, about behavior in politics/life) No matter what political idea people belive in, then they trapped with a human brain, which have taken millions of years to evolve, and reacts the same way for everyone - seldom do people elvove, and do something unpredictable... today the power of decision is in the middle - in the compromise. Extreme left and Extreme right will always loose, because they can not compromise, and in our parts of the world we have democracy, which survive because of compromises. People who are not able to or will not compromise are forced to react in the pattern our brain knows - first starting in the modern parts of the brain, which are more civil in reaction/tone, and if no solution is found, then it continues to go to older parts of our brain, which reacts with anger/frustartion etc., and if still no solution, then it goes to the oldest parts of our brian which are millions of years old and which we share with even the smallest bugs on this planet, the violent part. In politics, the more left/right a personīs views are, and the more uncompromising his/her views are with the surrounding society, then the more his/her brain will be in contact with the old parts, which makes his/her reaction predictable... and this also why extreme left and extreme right end up using the same methods against the present "middle compromise" society. The same brain pattern can be found at sporting events - ex. when your team is loosing/winning, then its not your modern parts of the brain, who are making your cheer or curse, but the old parts of the brain... the reactions are predictable, but that doesnīt stop us from enjoying it, since even our old "bug" brain is part of us :awinky: (now back on-topic) This election is going to get close - and no matter what, our industry will loose :awinky: |
Did anyone else notice Michael Moore at the Republican Convention? I wasn't impressed by him walking into people's unlocked homes in Canada but walking into the Republican Convention? THAT takes nuts.

today it's "islamicists" yesterday it was saddam hussein. 5 years ago it was slobodan milosevic. 15 years ago it was saddam hussein. 20 years ago it was muammar khaddafi. 25 years ago it was the ayatollah khomeini. 35 years ago it was the vietnamese communists. 45 years ago it was the korean communists. 55 years ago it was the nazis and the yellow peril. 90 years ago it was the kaiser. 105 years ago it was the spanish. before that it was the indians, the british, and who knows what else. do you discern a pattern yet, mike? it's nothing more than a perpetual ruse to keep the citizens in fear and begging to the mother hen government to keep them safe. as long as they keep you ignorant and scared you'll let them do whatever they want, and they like it that way. suckers. |

in fact, how were any of the examples i gave a threat to americans? and mind you, i left out totally lame made-up examples like fidel castro and nicaragua and who knows what else? and now we have a never-ending war on terror that the president himself says is unlikely to be won, but that doesn't stop him from extorting hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars a year to go out and wage it. keeping the citizenry scared is just a tool for cash extraction and power enhancement. * and sure, hitler was a bad guy and a lot of people died, but that didn't seem to be a problem when stalin was murdering millions, or mao, or pol pot, or north korea, or any of those other places that innocents died. didn't see the US busting ass to save them. so the US has a selective process about what threats are threats, and what threats aren't. the US did, however, think that they were threats enough to extract more billions from the citizenry to donate to the military industrial complex. |
