Almighty Colin 09-11-2003 03:47 PM

Maximum sustained winds are now near 160 mph. A category 5 storm. It will likely not maintain this intensity very long but will likely remain a major hurricane for the next week.

Where's she heading? Only time will tell.

I had friends that did that durring andrew

They fled Key west to seek shelter on the mainland only to grab a motel in....

Florida City...right next to Holmstead where the center went thru..

Thanx god it was a new motel

A storm of this magnitude when comes ashore will flood many many miles inland

Clemsontiger sleeps on a futon in the basement. The two of you are more than welcome to share it with him, but the rules are that you MUST take him with you when you leave. :)

if it goes to Hatteras Island, Sarettah will be fucked majorly,
I know the area and it ain't fun with only one road to escape.

S, if shit happens, get in touch with MikeW, he has the keys of our house while we are away

sarettah 09-12-2003 06:36 AM

Well I wish I was there.....

Would have loved to catch the surf last week and the surf that will be hitting in the next couple of days in front of Izzie.........

But I am not...... I am in Kansas City for now....

Have a lot of friends in Hatteras and yes, if a Cat 5 comes in there will wreak some havoc......

But the islanders in Hatteras are pretty self reliant...lol...and stubborn...

The rest of my family is up on Long Island and then around Boston....

If this one shoots up the coast, I am hoping they will move out of the way... Although they always act like most downeasters.... stubborn...

(I can hear it now...I've been through every major blow thats come up the coast for 50 years, I aint moving out of the way for this one)

Serge, if it levels Boca, everything east of intracoastal might get washed out to the Bahamas.

sarettah 09-12-2003 07:09 AM

I think Gloria http://www.geocities.com/hurricanene/hurri...icanegloria.htm was the last one to do any real damage to Hatteras.... It brushed by NC... went right over Hatteras and launched some tornadoes and such....

lolol... Yes Serge, Hatteras was hit by many many many.... I think I went through an average of 2 a year while I was there...

But the last one to cause MAJOR damage was probably Gloria... I was on the island right after it went through... hundred year old tress were uprooted... Houses that had stood through every storm for 50 years were hurt bad...

Lots of beach houses were flattened....

Gloria scared the locals...which is hard to do...

Winetalk.com 09-12-2003 07:49 AM

I remember Gloria...it hit NYC after NC..

we got together with friends and played poker all day long...

Yeppirs... It went right across Long Island....

I wasnt there for Gloria, but it was very much like Donna which is the first storm I remember... I was 5 years old, living in Levittown, LI.....

I remember lots of wind.... lots of water... and watching tree limbs and stuff blow up the street one direction... and then a few hours later watching them go back down the street...lol

Been through quite a few hurricane partis...lol... Our choice was always poker with Necco wafers as the chips....
