There are none in Australia.

service is a matter of opinion ... as for food, now who is ignorant?!

let me ask you, when you were eating a steak at delmonicos, where did it come from?

mike, i know, but i'm scripting images in the background and my pc is struggling so i can't really do anything else ;-)

No CJ, it is not a matter of opinion. It is a long Michelin tradition. You may want to try Alain Ducaisse or Guy Savoy for instance.
I have eaten steak near the Rocks in Sydney and I can honestly say the beef was good. I have eaten better steak in Paraguay for sure and Kobe beef is excellent. I am fortunate enough to live in a country that produces the finest steaks I have ever tasted. Now what was you point?
I don't agree with a lot of the points made in michelin reviews, neither do some of the worlds top chef's and restaurant owners ... and neither do 90% of people who dine in restaurants ... so what makes that RIGHT?

imo a good restaurant is one which has happy customers ... people who leave happy with the food and service, whether the michelin checklist was fulfilled or not.

so you take your checklist along when you dine, and i'll leave mine at home :okthumb: guess who will enjoy their night more?

Just for the record, I am not going to play your game of oneupsmanship. But also for the record, just two years ago on a two day stop over ended up at the Waterside Inn in Bray and at the Gordon Ramsey (sp?). So, yes I know that when you refer to a 3 star restaurant you are referring to michelin and yes, I have been in 3 star restaurants. I was also in several very good German, Italian and Spanish restaurants back in the 70's (and yes, I mean in Germany, Spain and Italy). I could not give a list of names if I tried, so I won't. That was long ago and far away now.

Also for the record. It doesn't matter what you have done, where you have been, who the fuck you know.

It does matter what you are doing. Where you are going, and who knows you.

Get a clue, this is Oprano. We aren't impressed.

That is nice, S. I hear that Ramsey's place is great. That was my question. I know where I am going. I also know what impresses people at Oprano. That would be Mike and Serge. I have read their endless posts on how much money they make and how many acres their house has. So could you please tell me what you feel is the difference between posting what you own is, from posting what you have done?

cj 02-11-2004 11:32 PM

CJ, there is no Michelin checklist darlin. What are you talking about?
---

you really are a putz aren't you?

how does one get rated with michelin if there is no checklist? i'm not using the term 'checklist' literally, but you don't get a rating if you don't meet a certain set of requirements.

this spells it out better than I obviously did:

It works roughly as follows: One-star restaurants are nifty little luxury places with noticeably good food and coddle-the-client service; two-stars are seriously luxurious with even better food, even more waiters and maitres d' and often valets or other personnel in silly outfits to greet you in a private parking lot; three-stars are veritable temples of gastronomy with an army of maitres d', waiters, coat clerks, bathroom personnel, brass polishing brigades and so on, places where you must plead and wheedle months in advance to get a table upon which you may sacrifice thousands of francs -- hundreds of dollars -- for a dining experience orchestrated by an artist-chef. Ironically, all of this ethereal kingmaking in the restaurant business comes from a branch of a down-to-earth company whose main business is making tires.

from: http://www.salon.com/wlust/pm/

so if i have a restaurant with non matching table cloths, don't take people's coats at the door and don't have a valet, then my restaurant couldn't possibly be good?

you must miss out on some really good restaurants with that attitude!!

lololol... I don't think Mike or Serge impress anyone here much. It's not about being impressed... Mike and Serge are just good people is what it comes down to.

What you own is what you have done with the money you have made or found or inherited, or been given. What you have done is way more important than what you have managed to accumulate. And what you are doing is what counts.

I know several very well off people that I would not trade lives with for a second. They had to sell their soul for what they had and their lives showed it.

Money helps, but it is far from the end all and be all as a goal in life. (sorry Nick, didn't mean to upset you with that :awinky: )

"thousands of francs ..."
firstly before we go any farther. There are no francs. They are now called Euros in most of the EC (Europe). Your post was a cut and paste job from some out of date website. If you are going to plagerize, please get a contemporary article. Check the date.
Secondly, that back peddling about the checklist is just codswallop.

oh i'm sorry, i didn't realize michelin had changed their CHECKLIST. you really have to reach for insults don't you?! i couldn't be bothered looking for an article that is up to date, they all say the same thing. michelin never changes the basic rules of what gets a star dickwad.

and if there is no checklist, or rules, then that must mean a michelin award is a matter of OPINION then ... :yowsa:

so which is it genius?

I'm impressed with both Mike and Serge (as well as being fortunate to be good friends with both) - don't need to list any reasons

as I'm impressed with many of the family and posters here at Oprano - for many various reasons

Now you've got me thinking about what makes a great dining experience ( I'm a skinny little guy that loves to eat and enjoys fine dinning)

Considering a total experience would include the company

but if we get down to just food (obviously including beverages), presentation, service and ambiance .....
Hmmm let me think on this a while

and while I thinking of great dining experiences some of mine have come in places that at a glance you wouldn't think would offer a great dining experiences

All I got back was

When you answer the questions we can continue.

Damn, Mikee. Every night you fold your tent. You need some practice if you are going to hold down the fort. It is a shame. Gonzo has been scared away and does nothing but post on SpamateurmasterZ anymore and Serge is sniffing O2 in Macha Pichu....everyone of any skill and wit has abandoned you and you are left with Peaches and Vick. That is why freakdaddyforum is kicking your ass and has only just started. Time to take care of business. With all your money, perhaps you could hire a spin doctor to look after this mess.
Damn you need to look outside your own pissing thread I know you see I spawned me a big ole one tonight.

But dont let me intterupt you...Im letting CJ have a go!
