For large programs this is true, but most "gay" surfers didn't stop there, it a lifestyle which makes it different. The mentality is different for the gay market look at the demographics,

1. Average gay man makes quite a bit more then the average straight man or wowman, a year, ususally doesn't have any childern to support.
2. The lifestyle is tons more open (porn is a very common and excepted) and they don't just join one site, they have several sites, one reason the gay owned and operated sites, work really hard to produce unique content and provide more services. Chargebacks and refunds.
3. The larger programs that all have gay sites, are taking advantage of the known gay traffic they have mixed with their straight traffic. (prob. why they are still around today - smart)

Gay has never been a niche - its always been a separate market, but unfortunately their has been a separatist feeling between the straight webmasters and the gay ones, this is changing thank goodness.

I can't tell you how many times I hear - "I can't look at that content I'm not gay." or "I'm not gay, I can't promote a gay site" Its not about being gay or straight, its about $$$. My ususal comment to that is "THIS IS A BUSINESS NOT A LIFESTYLE TREAT IT AS SUCH."

Bottom line is this: numbers came from a neutral third party.

I don't see a problem with Petr's numbers and given the time he's been in the business -- or the fact that he doesn't run any wm proggies I know of any more, he's got no reason to mislead.

Many times a site or two will defy the market-- this is one reason they become big -- but they don't signify the market overall -- if they did, you'd never have a Kara's or the like go out in front of the rest.

Conversions and retention are down overall lately, across the board. That's not just a number I see, it's people I don't do business with telling me the same.

i agree with Petr, i sell enough gay traffic to see the trends and there is not all that much difference between gay and straight sites anymore. Gay sites do convert about 30% better for me but retantions seem to have fallen off.
