I want to blow their minds. I want to BLOW UP BUFF's BLOG!!

I want to see how many posts, support pictures, best wishes, signs, etc.... I am shooting some photos now. I am getting all my friends invovled.

This is a way we can show our love and support and lets get them all the attention in the world!!

For those that don't know, directNIC as well as some other NOCs are
located together in a high-rise in New Orleans.

Despite everyone's warnings (including my own!) some tough-as-nails guys
from directNIC stayed behind to battle the hurricane and keep the
networks online.

It also mentions the power shortage, and that they are using diesel
generated power.

I remember a week or two ago people were talking about building
redundant datacenters, off-grid power, failure mitigation, etc.

I think if nothing else, this is at least a success story of building a
NOC which can provide critical infrastructure that will survive major
disasters.

Wow, Katrina was huge.

We are a group of people that were left behind as the hurricane arrived, so we could
protect our interests. During this time we spent a great deal of effort battling broken
windows, incoming water, and flying debris.

The looters are insane - right outside of our window they're pushing around shopping
carts full of goods.

We have been documenting all of our experiences, taking pictures, and have a live streaming
webcam setup from downtown New Orleans. Our journal is a place for people to share first hand
experiences of the disaster, and to just talk with like minded people. We are in an ISP
data center running off backup generators, so luckily we can still be online!
