I HIGHLY suggest you pick up all seven seasons of Deep Space 9 on DVD and watch them! Best show ever on television IMHO. There was conflict between the crew rather than the happy go-lucky stuff TNG had all the time. They also showed that things aren't always black and white in the world.
It was amazing watching an episode like
In The Pale Moonlight and watch as a Starfleet captain broke every rule in the book and comitted som really amazing crimes and said this.
