Getting to the top = Doing everything right.

Not staying at the top = Doing a single thing wrong.

I think Dravyk may have ended the debate right here. On your way to the top, you get to make a few mistakes, learn from them, and start again. If you're on top and lose it all, you lose a part of yourself that most people can't get back. Some people can "bounce," but most can't.
