MONTREAL — Manwin has struck a deal with Wicked Pictures to manage Wicked's paysites, the companies announced Tuesday.
http://www.xbiz.com/news/128933
They're thinking that if Manwin is managing their paysites they'll keep the long clips off of their tubes, just like they do for Brazzers.
Essentially a great big FUCK YOU to the rest of the industry.

I noticed the press release on XBiz is slightly different than the one on AVN. The AVN one actually ends with:
“Another thing that paved the way for this deal was their willingness to work with us and other studios towards controlling piracy and to work towards implementing Vobile’s MediaWise software available through APAP."
That "controlling piracy" really stood out. Of course, I don't take it as they plan to stop it...just control it so they become the biggest pirates!

Danny, you hit it. Basically, Manwin has maneuvered themselves into being one of the top tube site operators, and this software is a key in the game. Once a few more are signed on, they will likely use it to scan other websites, and use those results to sue people out of the business.
What that are doing is attempting to create a vertical market for their products. Everyone who plays on their team will be on the biggest tubes, and everyone who does not will be locked out. Other tube sites won't be able to use the content, effectively creating a nice big wall between one side and other other.
The real key will be how many studios are willing to sign up.

I suspect the next press release will be how theyve teamed up with the douchebags at TopBucks to host the content summit.

So what Im hearing is, THE company that introduced the porn tube.. AEBN.. is bitching about the fact that they lost..
I dont know anything about what Top Bucks or anyone else did, but supporting AEBN is the same fucking thing as supporting any other tube. ABEN started the .. avalanche..
You (gonzo) as well as everyone else on this board, can bitch and whine.. everyone else will benefit.. and I wont give a fuck.. I made my money at the same time as the heroin addict and prisoner Scott did..
That said, thank you ABEN, you made me a lot of money, even if you never paid me one single cent.

In fact, thinking about it, my apologies to Scott, he was considerably more honest than any of you will ever be..
Or well, maybe you could say Im wrong.. What I meant to say, Scott, Nick @Ilynx, Dean, and many many others, made me a hell of a lot more money than any of the combined "efforts" of what remains of Oprano ever willl..
The main exception might be Danny.. even thought I never did any direct business with him..
But staying neutral always works right?
I will let you all know "who I am" in a year or two.. it makes little financial sense right now, but Im in the 7-figures.. per year..

No idea about Jon, barely met him.. You will have to figure that out on your own..
I lived nearby, at the southwest of the vancouver island.. close to the Urban Market..
And if you want a bit of.. something to hate me even more about.. Im one of the ones that you all dislike.. Sorry to disappoint.. But we are in the 7th.. or.. actually 8th figure region per month.. to TRULY dislike me.. and I mean on both the Adult and Mainstream ends..
I could sell out, tomorrow, and be in the $100M+ region.. and despite that, Im not the major business partner.. and I REALLY dont give a fuck what you think.. so keep me entertained.. or tell me how to block oprano.. (or tell my tech..)
After all, Im Angelic, right? Which Im sure, unless youre REALLY retarded, you figured out, by now, isnt at all the case..

What Wicked is thinking is this. If Manwin is managing their paysites, their paysites will actually start making money. Tubes is likely the furthest thing from their minds.

BULLSHIT! They as much as admitted it when they referred to Vobile.
and yes, I'm well aware that Manwin = Brazzers. While you've been playing musical sales rep chairs the last few years I've been quite vocal about the topic.

I wouldnt call you "some of us", but rather most of everyone.
The people that "succeeded" (and sure, thats up for discussion as well), but the people that are VERY well off.. aren't the ones that cared about what YOU or 'that other guy' wanted..
Might not be the best example, but its one of the best.. Zynga.. $600M+/yr.. does anyone of you REALLY think they cared what happened to the 'gaming industry'.. EA, Disney, both acquired major 'farmville'ish' companies as soon as they could.. And I've talked to a few decent sized gaming companies.. about buying them.. one of them told me they'd never sell to EA, because they require 120 hr weeks.. and immediate results..
NO ONE truly 'succeeds', without essentially being a company that just cares about profit..
And that said, why should anyone in the "Adult Industry"?..
When everyone had 65% margins, sure, throw a vegas party.. or orlando,, or miami.. we were all there.. even though I have little interest in letting you know who i am..
ITS FUCKING BUSINESS.. friends are friends.. and to most anyone that hasnt already 'succeeded..', pretty much none of you will be my 'friend'..

"Well off, Succeeded," are very interesting terms. Terms that mean different things, to different people.
Describing them, the way you describe them, only pinpoints your maturity level. "Parasites," might be a better term for those that feed off others without adding any value.
If, indeed, you have any "value," whatsoever. (Which I question.)
Frankly, I just can't see why such a "successful" guy like you, would waste your time here?
Surely, you must have much more important things to do. Howz 'bout you go do 'em, and let the adults get back to the real business of the industry?

Sure, you can always argue that "making money" doesn't mean you've succeeded..
But Im not about to be a friend of yours, or anyone else here.. so can we keep this to business only?
Call me a parasite.. it wont matter to me.. but make sure to also include most everyone else that ACTUALLY runs (or is involved with) a BIG company..
Do you really think GE, or Walmart dont 'have issues..'..? If you don't, then please spend an hour or.. 15 years to figure things out..
I've been in the adult industry since mid-1997.. and I havent made more money in 2010, by far, than I ever did before..
As for 'well off' and 'succeeded'.. I've got a $7M flat... which, still, doesnt make me any happier.. but we're not talking about happiness here.. it's business..
And I come here because I followed Serge.. (and MikeAI) from YNOT, to Netpond, to Oprano... and once a day, Im pretty bored.. so pretty much the same reason you're here.. and everyone else..

How about you stand in the corner, quietly, while the rest of us go about our normal discourse? Maybe GFY would be a better place for you?Lots of loud mouth SOBs there.
If you're REAL quiet, and behave yourself, we MIGHT let you talk in about 6 months or so.
And I'm singularly impressed with your long time in the adult industry. Myself? I've been in the industry since 1985. I suspect that was a very long time before you were a twinkle in your daddy's groin.

These days, for me, success is just having a good time, making enough money to live well and retire on, and that's about it. Ten to fifteen years ago I worked my ass off to build what I started, and I was quite successful at it. Since then, I have completely downsized, moved my own office back to my home, and just take it easy doing little odds and ends that interest me. I've never "talked the talk", nor bragged about the money I have made or how successful I have been. People that knew me back when, know I did well. I'm not doing anywhere close to what I was doing 10 years ago, then again, I'm not even trying to.
I'm the first to admit I just don't have the drive or ambition to be one of the "Big Boys". As long as I have enough money to feed my travel and sailing habit, and can retire comfortably when the time comes, then I consider myself to be a great success!

Well, that tells us something, now doesn't it?
Yes, there was an adult business before BBS', websites, (both of which I've had since the early 90's.)
Way back in the "old days" we had video stores, (of which, I owned 4,) and before that, we had a brisk business in regular & super 8mm films. (Although, those were mostly sold "out of the trunk," as the adult industry was closer to the "illegal" side, than the legal side. It wasn't referred to as "the adult industry" then. Back then, we were just "porn dealers."
You have no idea how easy you have it.

That's how we got our start. I started my first BBS back in Calgary in 1988. Then had one in Nova Scotia, then hooked up with the guy running the largest Adult BBS when I moved back here to Montreal. In early 1994, we started playing around with this new WWW thing as we set up an early ISP here in Montreal and I had server space and bandwidth to play with. By 1996, we were pulling in over $30K a month from our home video sales and advertising on Carol's website. We started the actual pay site in January of 1997, and that took off far beyond my wildest expectations! It took me until March of 1997 to finally quit my Lead Engineer job at Bell Helicopters and start doing this full-time.
I really miss those early days when it was all so new and fun.
These days, I put out a lot of stuff in mainstream for travel and sailing, my hobbies. Make decent money from it actually, and it keeps me busy.

I remember when I thought I was on the internet because I was on a bbs. However, it was a swinger bbs and we did meet lots of people. Then one of them showed me the real internet. I spent 20 minutes downloading a picture and was amazed. Julia looked at it and said there's gotta be money in this. I borrowed a really crappy digital camera and proceeded to figure out how to get on "the net". That was 13 years ago....wow. A whole lot has happened in a decade

Damn, you got me beat!
I had my first store at 9 years old. (1974) It wasn't porn though. It was toys and candy. (Ricky's Toy and Candy) It was a real store, built on a concrete pad, made from a brand new steel shed kit, (10 X 10) bought at JCPenny for $199, for which I paid "rent" of $10/month. Dad paid for the concrete foundation, which is actually still there.
That was my first lesson in "free Publicity." Got a full 1/3rd page in the paper with two photos, and an in -depth "Business kid" story. Best profit? Red Swedish jelly fish. Bought 480 piece boxes, for $3.80 and sold them for a penny each from apothecary jars. Made $1 profit a week on that product line alone. (Big money for a 9 year old kid in 1974.)
Caught the bug back then, and it never went away. Didn't start selling "tickets" to our super 8mm movie "theater" to the neighborhood kids until I was 12.

Two to three previous owners of this board are as well (on the millionaire end).. as Im sure you are aware of, even if you might like to pretend Nick@Ilynx isnt.. he wasted enough money on silly things, but he was in the (legitimate, of course) mailing game when it paid off big time.. and trust me when I say that there were easily millions per month in that alone..

I actually started with PC Board for the first BBS in Edmonton back in the mid 1980's, then moved to Wildcat when I set up my next BBS in Calgary. I much preferred Wildcat. I still have the original Wildcat software on 5.25 floppies!
I do have to clean up some of that old software. Anyone need an original dBase on 5.25?? ;)

And Ive been in both Serge and Nicks homes too but not living in the basement.

OK, so going from zero to OK is an improvement. But going from OK to zero is a failure. So, tell us about how you went from a broke ass bankrupt to rich. It would be inspirational. I mean if you can't afford the payments on a cheap low rent condo, being rich must feel good. Maybe being rich in Panama means something entirely different than in the first world. Dont know many people in this biz that can say theyve had a client for 7 years.
Timon doesnt have any use for me. Because I dont know anything about ripping off webmasters and consumers. Nor do I share his enthusiasm for fucking trannys either.
My mind doesnt come up with con games like changing the T&Cs so you dont have to pay out webmasters for the traffic or putting consumers on the merrygoround of charges so they have to try all 100+ sites before they can cancel the agreement.
Good thing too the FTC seems to have agreed with me on that.
So I wont be having to move to a 3rd world country and worry about getting washed away by a tsunami in order to live like royalty on 30K a year.

This also ties into another thread. There's something about the shows, actually meeting the people behind the keyboards, to give you a sense of "who" they are.

Its a shame that board was tanked.
They wanted what they paid Rick for it.
The amusing part is somehow it ended back up on the open market last year.
I was approached to buy after its current owner tried to get me to help them run it. I made another firm and even more drastically reduced offer but they wanted me to pay enough for it to set them up in the teeshirt printing business.
Hope that worked out for them because we looked at buying their paysite prior to it and it looked like they werent any better at running that than a board.
I was pissed when it was admitted to Anton that the talent that was on the main site and who frequented several of these boards had long been gone and and the dude was just posing to squeeze the last dollar out of the biz.
As I recall the teeshirts Nick ordered from them were somewhat halfassed as well.

The "Original Deb" is the one that tried to get AM going again. She did retire from being in front of the camera to concentrate on the merchandise business, and as far as I know, they still have the store going in Mohawk, New York. They found the second "Deb" and brought her in to do a bunch of shoots. But from what I understand, she wasn't happy with the money, so she left. They then brought in the Brunette Deb who only lasted a few months, and now they have the fourth one. But I think she may just be bought content and isn't exclusively "Deb".
But a number of people have done the same thing. misti4u.com went through 3 Misti's (the first was an original YNOT member back in the day). Even Dan & lisa brought in another couple to be "Beth & Aaron".
