It is actually very interesting to see AVN sort of floundering around waving it's arms like a punch drunk fighter trying to make it into the next round. With both the "movie" and "web" industries in a state of flux, I don't think they are clearly seeing which way things will go.

I didn't attend the Florida show, but reports I heard suggested it was a crying towel event held in a hotel that could nicely be described as "less than full".

Maybe Steve Lightspeed can do the keynote speech and give us an update on how his suing his way to retirement is going!

STEVE LIGHTSPEED IS GOING TO SAVE US ALL!!!

Will we all get long sleeve shirts that say "Lightspeed" on the back?

Can you expand on that?

Can you expand on that?

Yeah.. I'm curious about that too..

I personally just don't like Vegas for a trade show, regardless of whether it's adult or not, as there are far too many other things I'd rather do than work while in vegas even if it's "working vacation" so to speak.

I've never liked Vegas for trade shows. I went to a couple of Aerospace & Defense ones there back in the 1980's, and just like with the Adult shows, there was just too many distractions. Many of the people who had booths at the show complained, and the shows have since been held elsewhere.

Oh, I like Vegas.
Otherwise, I probably wouldn't go to Vegas.
I always make it my "working vacation." I stay a couple extra days.
I wouldn't know how to "vacation."
Since I've been self employed, all my life, I really never had that "go to work, work, go home, don't think about work," ability.

I envy people that can put work down. It just doesn't work for me.
My brother does it well, but I never could.

venerable...not

a : calling forth respect through age, character, and attainments <a venerable jazz musician>; broadly : conveying an impression of aged goodness and benevolence <encouraged by the venerable doctor's head-nodding>
b : impressive by reason of age

Its only ten fucking years old....and gasping for life.

Everyone seems to have forgotten what happened the last time they had the brilliant idea of running AEE and Internext at the same time, along with CES.

let me see... hotel rooms were like a million dollars, flights were expensive, etc.

However, that was back when things were doing good. I went to Internext a couple of years ago for absolute peanuts, as much to see some non-porn friends as anything else (they were showing stuff at CES). round trip from montreal and 5 nights at the MGM for about $600, if I remember correctly, and I earned most of that back in the poker room.

CES isn't anywhere near the show it use to be.

let me see... hotel rooms were like a million dollars, flights were expensive, etc...Yes, but that wasn't what I was referring to. Most of the traffic was at AEE while Internext was like a morgue.

CES may not being anywhere near the show it used to be, but it's still one of the larger shows in Vegas each year. From what I'm hearing, this may be the last time for CES in Vegas. Chicago is getting a serious look as the new location for 2012.

I've always said it was foolish not to merge the shows.
They were trying to rape people for the fees, and the stand fees when the 'net was "new."

But now a days, the net people don't have the free cash they used to, and the "movie people" are just gonna have to get used to the idea that the web people are part of the business.

For me, the proper way was many moons ago, when the webmaster show ran for 3 days, AEE ran three days, and they overlapped by a single day. It allowed people to work both sides of the deal (and for that matter, everyone to be around for the AVN awards show).

But times have changed. As EJ said (rare time I agree with him) the fuck you money that the internet people had is gone, the show can now be held in the mens room with space left over. Very likely the webmaster part of the show will be downstairs, in one of the smaller areas. Honestly, it doesn't need to be any bigger than just that.

Unless you have a reason or a goal with the shows, going to them can be a big waste of time. Vegas is a great place to visit, but it isn't the best place for shows, too many distractions.

CES moving doesn't surprise me either. I have a feeling that Vegas has sort of become worn out on many people, sort of "been there, done that". When CES was so big as to sell Vegas out, there might have been something to it, but the last few years rooms are going on discount, last minute, sell them cheap rates (you can hotwire CES time 2 weeks out and get a good room cheap).
