I've been battling with a Google search redirect virus this past week. Nothing I did worked. After endless research and trying 8...yes 8...different anti virals and anti malware programs I finally found out what it was and found a program to delete it. Apparently I had TDL3 Alureon and none of the programs I tried could find it. I finally tried Hitman 3 and that discovered Alureon was hiding in a driver and deleted it. I'm sure Harry would have discovered it in a couple of hours..but a week is good for me LOL.

There are some pretty nasty critters running wild out there right now that are damn tough to remove.

Yes..I was on several of the boards where you can post your logs and there were a LOT of people asking for help. If I hadn't found it by Monday I was going to post my log on one of those boards and ask for help. I was going crazy...deleted Firefox cuz I thought it might haave been something in the newer version. Deleted Acrobat Flash..then had to reinstall it cuz I couldn't view anything inYouTube. LOL One good thing thats come out of it though is that I am a lot more confident with the technical side of my computer.

Now that everything is back to normal again I'm working on some blogs over the weekend.
Looking for some interesting widgets.

I've had that virus about 10 times now. One varient made me revert to an old restore point... thankfully Norton Ghost bailed me out. Try Stopzilla and E-Set. Two good programs.

I think I may STILL have that on one of my test machines.......
Hitman 3 got rid of it?

Yes..I downloaded the trial version of Hitman 3 and did a scan and it came up with the TDL3 Alureon and a lot of tracking cookies. It deleted half of Alureon and said the other half would be deleted on boot up. So far it hasn't come back. I think I got it from a porn site while researching sponsors for some blogs I am doing...wish I knew which one so I don't go back there. The only thing I didn't like about Hitman 3 is that although it recommended deleting the tracking cookies it was unable to delete most of them.

Apparently Alureon is one of the top five that people get. Its not really dangerous..just makes life miserable since you can't do searches by clicking links on the web. I was able to get around by typing in directly the urls I wanted to go to.
