I'm going to bypass my rule about ignoring you this one time, because you have made a good point.

That's the guy I hired. A really long time ago, and haven't hired anyone else better, since.

Know why? Every time I've spoken to a "web Designer," he seems to think he's won the lottery. I, as a business owner, am supposed to roll out cash for some guy to play around with a design that I'm not gonna like, and then fight with him to finish what he was supposed to have completed.

So, when the collected group of adult web designers run out of the work that's paying them gazzilions of dollars, and get around to something reasonable, they can call me. When they do, here's the important part: SHOW ME SOMETHING FIRST.

This is a large part of why ugly pages often out convert the gawdy expensive designer pages. The page may be ugly, but if the person who designs it knows his surfers, he will lead them directly to the link that is most likely to result in a conversion for that user.

The problem is the graphic designers have been trained to dazzle and show off their skills with making snappy visuals. They have NOT been trained in good usability, marketing and psychological principles.

In adult, this is even worse. At some point, the common marketing perception became that the surfer equated quality members area with a high end jazzed up tour. That might've had some truth a decade ago. Now, underestimating how educated the surfers are is a huge mistake.

If I could preach one word to every graphic designer out there, that word would be "clean".

Bravo. I couldn't agree more. Splashy annoys me to no end...

If i was still submitting galleries today I'd still use my old lots of text with very few, of any at all, graphics style I did way back when.
