That is an interesting read. Articles like that make me want to go back to school and take more social sciences classes to predict consumers better.

Sadly, most of the people who "predict" consumers are doing it with 20/20 hindsight rather than forward looking predictions. Nobody could figure that apparently stupid and unstructured things like Twitter would be able to reach it's current levels, or that Cragislist could work with 1980s web design and pretty much wipe out an entire market segment.

Yeah, but both of those essentially copied existing or previous models, for example, craigslist is a lot like those old "pennysavor" newsprinted listings, not pretty but functional and didn't try to improve, just emulate with enhancements - or look at all the people that copied Bang Bros... when in fact they had just copied old brick and morter style producers like Bus Stop Tales and Buttman, etc.

Bottom line is...business is business. Business has a life of its own. Its kinda like life. The more it changes, the more it stays the same. If you get that, then you will make a living. The Hudson's Bay Company was founded in 1670, and I can still go down the street and buy my socks at at a Bay store.

Personally I think it would be more valuable to be able to push the trends where you want them to go rather than predict them. :>))
