As you may know my partner Dravyk was a writer. Among the things I rescued from his house before his family threw everything out were boxes of things he had written over the years and things he and I had written but never done anything with. One of the things which is about 99% finished is a book about our time in the porn industry. It basically just needs editing since we both wrote freestyle and just exchanged what we wrote. I know there are some legal things I have to clear up, but do you think I should go ahead with this book and get it published..or try and get it published?

If you can get it into PDF you can get it self published to anything from a paperback book to a coffee table sized one.

That's an idea. I would look into all possibilities if its decided to go ahead with it. I have a LOT of Harry's stuff. He even wrote a full length novel. I was thinking that I might be able to set up some kind of entity so that any money made from his writings could go to a hospital that deals with IHSS, which is what Harry died of. I don't know why he didn't try and get some of this stuff published himself. I think some of it is really good.

I hate to be the dissenting note here, but what's it's legal status?
"Family threw out" has a way of morphing to "someone stole out of his attack" after it makes $10 profit, 3 years later after all your work?

Just saying....

His brother asked me if I wanted the stuff when he was throwing things out..and I said I did. He also gave me boxes of Harry's music casettes...yes, casettes...and I got all of the computer stuff because it belonged to the business. The brothers attorney signed off on this.

I actually did "take" the cat because she was about to be taken to the ASPCA, and I promised Harry I wouldn't let that happen. Actually there was a will which left everything to me, including the house, but Harry never dated or signed it....so I guess his brother was being generous by letting me have whatever I wanted from the house. I really only wanted things that meant something to Harry. I didn't want the house. I didn't want the money. I didn't want the giant TV with the XBox games, I didn't want much of anything. The stuff that I wanted was considered junk by his family

Since I wouldn't be keeping any profits I think its probably ok, but of course thats one of the things I would discuss with my attorney before I started doing anything.

I'd have to agree with gonzo, book/publishing/distribution deals are extremely difficult to negotiate and obtain..
