How many of you started out with geocities as a website or something similiar? Yahoo getting a taste of the hosting market.

A passing of an era.....we had one, of course. Back when it was all a mystery and getting "on" the internet was magic. It was way more fun back then.

My first "home page" was on Linq (a local Montreal "ISP") even before Carol's site was online! ;)

A group is archiving it and reopening it under reocities.com and they do have a link fixer plugin that will fix the links on your page. No 'editor', but I believe they are allowing FTP/publishing access.

Shows the complete lack of vision of Yahoo and why they're struggling to stay relevant despite once upon a time being the largest site on the web.

Geocities was positioned to evolve into something like myspace or facebook or any number of other communities. It was active, vibrant, and even required minimal overhead as they had moderators doing most of the work for 'em.

And yahoo still managed to fuck it up.
