Back in October I proposed my solution to the economic mess http://www.oprano.com/msgboard/showthread.php?t=92503
(more easily read version at http://www.americantune.net)
It was a solution that would cost 12 trillion but would have actually taken care of the whole mess.
As of today, according to Bloomberg, we have spent, lent or pledged 12.8 trillion and we are nowehere near to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. :headwall: :headwall: :headwall: :headwall:

I read your previous solution. It's not a bad thought, however, I do not believe that trillions would be needed to bailout the middle class. In all honesty, I believe that if they just gave every family 1 million dollars to do with what they may, it would cost the country less than 1 trillion dollars...
I believe that the 1 million would be spent willy-nilly by the poor, used to pay off debts by the middle class, and stored into investments by the rich, thus stimulating all aspects of the economy. Now, that's not to say that everyone wouldn't end up going hogwild with that cash, to a degree, but studies have shown that in most cases, poor stay poor, middle stay middle, and rich stay rich... which shows a pattern in behavior.
Our country would end up with maybe a billion or so spent. The economy would be stimulated 'AT THE SOURCE' of the issue, the consumers. And, everyone would benefit.
The way we are going now, B. Hussein Obama will bankrupt this country and send us all to the bread lines... and dont forget, we'll be asking for that bread in Chinese. I'm really curious about what the news will say about the summit. I can't believe the rest of the world will allow Obama to be there and be supported like he has been. The debt we've accumulated is scary!
I will have to say, after watching Daniel Hannan's tirade on the PM last week... I felt a little sad. Why can't WE have politicians that speak with such eloquence? Why can't we have politicians that seem to really give a shit about the country? Why the hell hasn't this country kicked out all of the incumbants and actually given us a new start, for once... I mean, c'mon, Kennedy has been there since the Indian wars! Time to retire!!!
Sorry for the long post, bf and I run a political site, too... and that's about all we talk about in this house LOL

Well, that would cost more than a billion.
A billion would give 1000 families 1 million each.
I don't know how many families there are in the U.S. but there are more than 1000.
But your idea would probably work, just not sure how much it would cost.

Followup, according to the census (http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0005055.html) there were 78,425,000 families in the U.S. as of Mach 2007.
Giving each of these families 1 million would be a total of $78,425,000,000,000
That is 78 Trillion dollars.
I will go with the 12 trillion solution :okthumb:
