Craiglist is one of the most amazing sink holes of scum you have ever seen on the planet. The erotic services section is like a cross between the red light district and a dark alley way filled with armed muggers. It's almost comical.
The newest scam, reported to Rand of Epoch (no answer yet) uses fake hooker profiles to snake people into buying recurring memberships to porn sites, with the promise of a girl's contact number.
It starts with an ad like this:
http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/ers/1079687622.html
the horny guys contact the girl by the email forwarding system, and the girl sends them back a note saying "let's meet up for some fun! just go to my website and book an appointment date so I can schedule you".
The link she sends goes to a site like : http://www.datesophia.com/
Here's where the fun starts - in order to get the phone number, you have to sign up for a membership to xxxescortsxxx.com - a name selected most likely because people are likely not to realize what they are in for.
There is no phone number coming - just a bill for membership (and from what I gather, some nasty future cross sales as well, how pleasant).
Do these scammers have no morals left? That isn't advertising, that is bait and switch - entirely illegal.
RAND! Check your mail, this turkey is spamming craiglist for all sorts of cities with the same websites!
