The 18.5% tax (http://carnalnation.com/node/4025) that Washington State Rep. Mark Miloscia (http://www.leg.wa.gov/house/miloscia) wanted to levy against porn videos and other adult products has died in committee. Rep. Ross Hunter (http://www.leg.wa.gov/house/hunter/) refused to give the bill a hearing on the grounds that it would over-complicate Washington's tax structure to apply different tax rates to different merchandise based on their content. Hunter says that Washinton's participation in the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streamlined_Sales_Tax_Project) gives him an obligation to keep Washington's sales taxes as simple as possible, and that Miloscia's plan would have introduced too many gray areas.
