From a post on GFY:
Effective Immediately MasterCard is going to enforce rule 5.10.1
http://www.mastercard.com/us/merchant/pdf/MasterCard_Rules_5_08.pdf

Pre-Checked Cross sells are now officially DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!
Fines will be 50k per week per account
30 days for banks to cancel all accounts or termination of their right to process

This rule will not affect IPSP accounts since we are viewed as a single merchant in MasterCard's eyes.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! The day before Christmas this is really PRICELESS

I hope VISA follows suit. Merry Christmas!

Notice that Ron did a nice asterix on the deal - it doesn't affect ccbill clients, because as an IPSP they are viewed as a single merchant, so pre-checked cross sales on mastercard between ccbill clients would be acceptable.

Yes, and I really have no problem with that. Anyone doing shady shit with CCBill cross sales will get shit-canned pretty quickly. No way to roll multiple MIDs and merchant accounts to hide high charge back rates and since CCBill hosts the join forms the cross sales are always above the submit and well disclosed.

...and not pre-checked, which is clearly the bigger issue here.

I am sort of hoping that Visa gets the memo from Mastercard and chooses to do the same thing, I suspect at this point that it is only a matter of time. I would have to think that the cross sale chargebacks are piling up and all the fake / made up billing companies in the world can't sweep that much shit under the digital rug.

I think Visa may already have this in the works, but they move a bit slower than Mastercard since Visa is actually three regional companies and not a single global entity like MC.

I saw a post by the ATK affiliate rep saying that this MC policy was a topic of discussion when he was at the Epoch offices a couple of weeks ago, so it's not a bomb that MC just now dropped out of the blue.

This has been rumbling for months now.
And from what I hear theres a lot more to follow.

Deecash and the rest will be scrambling now!

Affiliates that are dependent on these high PPS programs are in for a dose of reality too.

The thinning of the herd continues.

Actually, if you read Ron's post, it does say "pre-checked cross sales" in there.

Right on with MasterCard!

Anything that forces disclosure is good.

Even the best exposed prechecks are bad, but tempting to those trying to milk every penny. The stats will show you why they do it.

But I could absolutely live with nothing but unchecked cross sales. To me that's not really different from what amazon does. If a user has to actually take action to say "yes, i want to buy that too", that's pretty solid.
