LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bettie Page, a 1950s pinup model who helped set the stage for the 1960s sexual revolution, has died. She was 85.
Her agent Mark Roesler says Page died Thursday night at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a heart attack nine days ago. He says she never regained consciousness.

Page attracted national attention with magazine photographs of her sensuous figure in bikinis and see-through lingerie that were quickly tacked up on walls across the country. Her photos included a centerfold in the January 1955 issue of then-fledgling Playboy magazine, as well as controversial sadomasochistic poses.

Roesler says Page had been hospitalized for three weeks with pneumonia and was about to be released when she suffered the heart attack Dec. 2.

Ahh, back when showing off your bra was considered provocative... she pull out her boobs entirely and shocked many. RIP, you will be missed!

Definately an icon of a bygone era. To me she was like the flipside of Marilyn Monroe. Ying and Yang sort of thing. RIP Bettie. You will live on ...

A life well-lived, with no shame for that which made her famous.

If only today's "icons" could have that much class.

Bettie Page (1923 - 2008) 12.18.08
Last week, fans everywhere mourned the loss of pinup queen, Bettie Page, who passed away at the age of 85. Propelled to stardom when she posed for Playboy as Miss January 1955, Page was one of the most photographed pin-up girls of the 1950s. Her iconic image has endured a legacy unlike any other, even after she stopped modeling in 1957 and turned to religion.

As popular now as she was in her heyday, Page's playful likeness has come to grace everything from vintage erotica to playing card and country albums. Most of her photographs, which sometimes played on bondage themes, seem tame by contemporary standards, they were highly controversial in their day, raising eyebrows and earning Page a subpoena to appear before a senate committee on pornography though she never did.
