Inerracial couples. why do people assume?

when somebody says they are mixed race, people normally go, oh so ur mums white yeah?i mean why assume?why do they always think that the mum is white and the dad is black when it can be the other way round?and why do i feel not totally comfortable around an interracial couple with a white mum and black dad? but feel absolutely normal around a black mum and white dad.. i dont get it.

Since I'm pasty white and I've dated a few black women my first assumption is that it could go either way. I have no idea why you're not comfortable with one scenario and not the other.

I don't think people necessarily assume anything. I think you're projecting your own feelings into the situation. I certainly don't stop to try and figure out who is black, caucasian, asian, etc. when given the information that someone is interracial. I think it's your issue.
