Look around at the cross sales crisis. I would say that this meltdown answers that question once and for all......NO.

Good content will prevail and any of you that are relying on your traffic best be looking for another line of employment.

Traffic is always king, but sometimes people are distracted by the joker and his games. But at the end of the day, without traffic, the pre-checked cross sales don't work.

The more traffic that gets pulled from the most abusive programs, the less they make - there is a direct relationship.

Sorry, but I think this makes my case.

Sorry, I am missing the point. Without traffic, the best content in the world does not sell. With traffic, some of the worst content with the worst terms will sell. Thus, traffic is king, no?

And the traffic guys will say content is cheaper than it's ever been....

The truth is you gotta learn how to sell and market. Produce something that someone wants, and find a way to help the people seeking it find it and purchase it.

The rub is that "generic" porn can be found for free all over the place, so why would they buy it? You need to be targeting things that are very specific. Might specific stars, specific niches, specific fetishes or even specific girls. And protect your content, dont over-expose it.

You need good traffic and good content for a long term, successful website. It is kinda obvious that they do go hand in hand. One without the other just doesn't work.

I think Graham is talking about the old carpet-bombing of traffic that some people do. Through enough traffic at something, and some will stick. On the other hand, a true niche site positioned properly can get excellent conversions and do well with little traffic. I'm a believer in the happy medium, as stated above...Good Traffic+Good Content=Happy Danny

Good product works....
The traffic finds IT.

Bullshit. Traffic is still king. Always has been and always will be. Just because more companies use pre-checked cross sales doesn't mean if you buuild it they will come.

This is not a chicken and egg situation here. Content always comes first and traffic seeks it out.
I do agree with Danny that there is a happy medium. But brute force traffic is worth very, very little. Its right up there with burned out vanilla content.
Its just a traffic jam and everyone hates traffic jams where I come from.

Gimme a Britney Spears sex tape, and then let's revisit this discussion.

Pretty sure I'll have more traffic than I can handle very quickly.

Yup......

Traffic is king in good times. Content is king at the moment. Good traffic is easy to get. Good content is gold.
I think this is about to become evident to all the traffic rats on GFY.

In troubled times, traffic loses huge value. Good content never does. I think that is an historical fact. It takes very little traffic to sell good content and those who provide said content have little trouble finding that tiny little bit of traffic that is necessary to have a successful business.

If nobody comes to the site, if nobody knows... then content is the king of the desert.

Neither traffic nor content are king, sign ups at a profit and without making the person think he was ripped off is king.

You can send traffic and get them to sign up to crap. Try doing that for 8 years and see what happens. The surfer decides it's time to not spend money. Then all it needs is a clever guy to think of an idea to give the surfers free content in any quality and pay for it with adverts.

How long before that happens?
