Forsyth County authorities announced Thursday that they have uncovered an elaborate marijuana growing operation in the basement of a north Forsyth County home.

Two suspects were arrested, and marijuana with a street value in excess of $1 million was seized, Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said.

Paxton said investigators went to the home at 5220 Ridge Farms Drive on Tuesday, acting on a tip about possible drug activity.

Inside the home, they discovered a large marijuana farm being cultivated in the basement of the residence.

The farm had an automatic watering system, humidity and heat controls and reflective material, designed to reflect light on the plants, installed in the walls and ceiling of the rooms, said Lt. Col. Gene Moss, commander of the Sheriff's Office's Enforcement Bureau.

"This was the most sophisticated growing operation I have seen in my 30-plus years in law enforcement," Moss said.

Arrested at the home were William D. Morrow, III, 44, and Linda Bates Vaughan, 40, were taken into custody. They were charged with the felonies of manufacturing and trafficking in marijuana and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

In 2000 and 2001 Molson breweries underwent some fairly major restructuring, some of which was reported on this site. They bought back the 49% share of the company formerly owned by Cooper's of Australia, bought Brazilian Kaiser Brewery, and closed down several major operations in Canada, consolidating their brewing. Today Police raided the massive former Molson brewery in Barrie Ontario, which was closed in 2000. It seems the plant had gone from making Coors, to making Bud. And we do not mean the stuff made famous by Anheuser-Busch! Shown here is the grow operation that was found inside one of the massive beer tanks.

In a joint operation of the Ontario Provincial Police and Barrie Police Service, thousands of pot plants were seized in this community about an hour north of Toronto. And thousands more were seized from a nearby building. With more than 60,000 square feet the operations were larger than a football field, and even included dormitory quarters for up to 50 workers. Total street value of the crop was estimated at $30 million.
Nine people were arrested on-site in what is being described as the largest grow operation bust in Canadian history.
They were running three shifts.

In Vancouver, you have to sign a disclaimer on your house insurance that it won't be used for a grow op. As a landlord, you have to inspect your premises every six months to check for grow ops...by law.
Around here, if you report a grow op, it takes them six weeks to even look at it and you can smell the bud walking down streets at night. Its estimated to be BC's second largest export industry after lumber.

I wonder if this was related to the brownie eating contest held at the Love Shack in Norcross at 4:20 yesterday?
